Rules:

- No memes, trolling, misinformation, or low-effort posts/comments (including reposts). If you see posts like this that anger you, do not engage. Report, block, and live a happier life than they do. Any slap-fight is subject to comment removals. Fights full of rule violations will result in temporary bans to cool off.
- No manipulating votes via bots or alt accounts; this will result in permanent bans. Vote based on comment quality, not agreement. This community aims to foster discussion; please reward people for putting effort into articulating their viewpoint, even if you disagree with it.
- No hate speech, slurs, celebrating death, advocating violence, or abusive language. This will result in an account ban. Usernames containing racist, or inappropriate slurs will be permanently banned.
We ask that the users report any comment or post that violate the rules and use critical thinking when reading, posting, and commenting. Users that repeatedly have comments or posts removed, weaponize reports, or violate the code of conduct, will be banned.
All posts and comments will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis. I mean, I don't disagree, but Reagan and Ford didn't necessarily make Europe especially distrustful of the USA. Reagan made South America distrustful of the USA, but the USA weren't specifically allied with many South American nations other than through imperial dominance anyway.
The USA was mostly considered stable and relatively trustworthy, even with Reagan in charge. Dubya was when Europe really started questioning US long-term stability and trustworthiness as an economic partner and NATO partner.
It's a very narrow distinction, but I'll give you that. Though it was Reagan that sold arms to the middle east and Iran. Perhaps they didn't think the US would fall under him. But they certainly knew he wasn't a dependable or upstanding person.
Trump is very mask off in a way that many of those sociopath's weren't. Mostly because he's incapable of masking.
Being European and old enough to remember, I'd say Reagan was not exactly popular in Europe. His "In five minutes we'll start bombing" joke -in Berlin of all places in the world- didn't go down very well in West Germany which used to be far on the pro-American side.
