Honestly shocked these clowns haven’t gotten some well deserved lead sandwiches doing this shit yet. In most states it would be completely legal, considering they have no id or warrant.

[-] 7U5K3N@lemmy.dbzer0.com 49 points 1 week ago

Yeah it amazes me as well that there hasn't been gunfire exchanged yet.

Blue cities or not... There's more firearms than people in this country. And folks carry all the time.

Tho . I guess that's what the administration is waiting for.

[-] peoplebeproblems@midwest.social 38 points 1 week ago

Precisely. Then a battle can happen and they can say they "uncovered an antifa terror cell, and now we have to have martial law because we told you."

It's terribly predictable what they're attempting. What surprises me is that while people (in general) might be stupid, they also (generally) act reasonably.

So far, "don't set the gunpowder surrounding us on fire, and work together to clean up this mess" seems to be reasonable.

[-] Mouselemming@sh.itjust.works 28 points 1 week ago

There's more guns than people because some people have a LOT of guns. They're not evenly distributed.

We need to start having the cats bring guns with them when they go choose new owners, to spread the guns more fairly.

[-] Corkyskog@sh.itjust.works 19 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

To back you up 22% of Americans own guns... https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2016/sep/20/gun-ownership-america-firearms-super-owners

Also here is an interesting map related to the subject.

It kind of makes you wonder why they aren't doing these heavy invasions in red states. Not that I think they are off the table, moreso they need a form of martial law first.

[-] HeyThisIsntTheYMCA@lemmy.world 4 points 1 week ago

where are these statistics from? because the leftists i know only admit they have firearms to their closest friends and allies.

[-] samus12345@sh.itjust.works 2 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

I don't know why people think guns are a magic bullet (ha!) that will keep you safe from the gestapo. As soon as ICE thugs get shot, the real military will be sent in to crack down, and they have far more firepower than any civilian.

[-] Corkyskog@sh.itjust.works 3 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

have far more firepower than any civilian.

I guess if they want to start using heavy ordinances, armed drones, etc.

In reality some of these militia groups have basically the same guns, same training and same equipment as the military. All it takes is someone with an FFL 9 or higher and they have access to all types of explosive weaponry.

The major advantages of the military are numbers, transportation logistics and communications. If you control communications you control the battlefield.

Unfortunately most of these groups are ICE as their day jobs... But it gets dangerous when it gets too close to their neighborhoods.

Tbh I am surprised how low it is in Texas but maybe that has changed since 2016 because they relaxed laws since then.

[-] Corkyskog@sh.itjust.works 4 points 1 week ago

I am not, big cities and the land is really rural. Hard to balance out all the people in cities. Also remember that map is "ownership" per household. They could have the exact same percentage of household ownership as New Mexico, but each household might have 10x the number of guns.

[-] HeyThisIsntTheYMCA@lemmy.world 3 points 1 week ago

Texas has far stricter gun laws than most people would think. Which is to say they have gun laws.

[-] SabinStargem@lemmy.today 2 points 1 week ago

Texas gun law: "A loaded pistol in every pot!"

[-] HeyThisIsntTheYMCA@lemmy.world 3 points 1 week ago

I prefer Vermont's "A loaded rifle with every ounce of pot!"

[-] HeyThisIsntTheYMCA@lemmy.world 3 points 1 week ago

I got CDSd today (sorry, no gun) and if my house's cat population wasn't at the fire code limit I'd have brought her home so she can die loved. Instead, I have her some loves and affection on the rip of her head, the only spot without fur so matted I was scared to touch her. That I couldn't do anything real for her broke my tiny heart.

[-] mx_smith@lemmy.world 6 points 1 week ago

I think the issue is it is happening the MSM is not reporting it for fear of retaliation. I read about several attacks on ICE facilities in Texas but it wasn’t from any mainstream media.

[-] FlyingCircus@lemmy.world 9 points 1 week ago

Mainstream media is all owned by billionaires and they’re all complicit.

[-] 7U5K3N@lemmy.dbzer0.com 7 points 1 week ago

That's because as everybody knows the mainstream media is an ally to the government and not to the people unfortunately.

[-] sobchak@programming.dev 30 points 1 week ago

Raids are usually done in early morning when people are likely sleeping, and everyone gets in position quietly (people at all possible entrances/exits), then many of the raiders come in and try to secure all rooms before people realize what's going on. They also come in overwhelming force, and most people would rather take their chances of surviving, rather than ensuring the death of themselves and increasing the likelihood of their loved ones being murdered as well.

I've lived in a place that was raided by police once, and I was awoken by a guy with an AR-15 standing over me yelling (doors were unlocked, so they all just came in quickly, and I guess pretty quietly; but I'm a very heavy sleeper, so IDK).

[-] Wilco@lemmy.zip 3 points 1 week ago

I was thinking the same thing. The only issue is that there are several of them breaking in weapons drawn ... that tips the balance. Eventually these untrained proud boy rejects are going to hit a parano8d gun nut and find out there are no repercussions when someone shoots a home invader.

[-] SparroHawc@lemmy.zip 6 points 1 week ago

That's like saying there's no repercussions to shooting a cop who busts down the wrong door.

It doesn't matter whether or not it's legal; they'll find a way to make sure you have repercussions.

[-] zululove@lemmy.ml 1 points 1 week ago

I wouldn’t say untrained you have to think this has been going on for months now the new recruits are better and more disciplined every day

[-] dreadbeef@lemmy.dbzer0.com 2 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

it's oregon lol, not really known for being the bastion of armed citizenry in the us

I see what youre saying though, I'm just not as surprised yet, having been around guns and gun owners my whole life in kentucky.

[-] tocopherol@lemmy.dbzer0.com 11 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

Oregon has over 50% ownership, placing it in the highest tier of gun owning states per capita, according to data from 2022, I've seen various numbers though, increasing in later years so it may be higher now. Ancedotally though the majority of people I've known in Oregon had at least one firearm. Armed right wing 'sovereign citizen' groups have stood up to feds multiple times in the state, and there are several known anti-government militias based in Oregon.

[-] dreadbeef@lemmy.dbzer0.com 7 points 1 week ago

apprently I know jack shit about oregon 😂

THE POLICE PROBLEM

3950 readers
792 users here now

The police problem is that police are policed by the police. Cops are accountable only to other cops, which is no accountability at all.

99.9999% of police brutality, corruption, and misconduct is never investigated, never punished, never makes the news, so it's not on this page.

When cops are caught breaking the law, they're investigated by other cops. Details are kept quiet, the officers' names are withheld from public knowledge, and what info is eventually released is only what police choose to release — often nothing at all.

When police are fired — which is all too rare — they leave with 'law enforcement experience' and can easily find work in another police department nearby. It's called "Wandering Cops."

When police testify under oath, they lie so frequently that cops themselves have a joking term for it: "testilying." Yet it's almost unheard of for police to be punished or prosecuted for perjury.

Cops can and do get away with lawlessness, because cops protect other cops. If they don't, they aren't cops for long.

The legal doctrine of "qualified immunity" renders police officers invulnerable to lawsuits for almost anything they do. In practice, getting past 'qualified immunity' is so unlikely, it makes headlines when it happens.

All this is a path to a police state.

In a free society, police must always be under serious and skeptical public oversight, with non-cops and non-cronies in charge, issuing genuine punishment when warranted.

Police who break the law must be prosecuted like anyone else, promptly fired if guilty, and barred from ever working in law-enforcement again.

    That's the solution.

Our definition of ‘cops’ is broad, and includes prison guards, probation officers, shitty DAs and judges, etc — anyone who has the authority to fuck over people’s lives, with minimal or no oversight.
