Uncensoring meme posts is probably a good new use for AI to turn its efforts to I reckon
it takes five seconds in any image editor. how would this be a good use for ai?

Wouldn't it take longer to use AI?
What in proposing is every post that gets put on Lemmy runs through a filter that says "if this image is censored, uncensor it" before it goes live. We can also keep the original for posterity.
It could also just be for communities on a particular server, like everyone doesn't need to participate.
