Literally THE reason I've always been against the idea of smart rings. Wearables like a watch are fine, because they don't permanently seal themselves around your appendages when they fail; you can always unclasp the band of a watch.

You could certainly build a ring that unfolds or at least isn't a full circle around your finger if you weren't obsessed with encroaching intoj an existing jewelry format for marketing reasons.

Of course that would imply that there's a need of some kind to have a headless computer around your finger, which... there isn't?

I kind of get a ring. I wore a smartwatch for years, it was only after my last one broke, and I didn't immediately replace it, that I realised how inconvenient they were. I used to constantly get it caught in things e.g. while getting dressed, and constantly had to keep adjusting the position of the band. With a ring on a finger, I can't see this being anywhere near as much of an issue.

Would be great if they didn't risk blowing your finger up.

I had a Android Wear watch for a minute. Got it for free from a coworker. I liked it but when it died I felt like I lost nothing of value. Now I just wear an analogue watch (one of Citizen's watches which has a solar panel on the face which charges a capacitor to power it so no batteries to worry about) and that does everything I need from a watch plus it's small enough that it never gets in the way unlike the Android Wear watch

What is Cyberpunk?

Cyberpunk is a science-fiction sub-genre dealing with the integration of society and technology in dystopian settings. Often referred to as “low-life and high tech,” Cyberpunk stories deal with outsiders (punks) who fight against the oppressors in society (usually mega corporations that control everything) via technological means (cyber). If the punks aren’t actively fighting against a megacorp, they’re still dealing with living in a world completely dependent on high technology.
