I just got some jars today and plan to preserve things in them. 12 x 500ml. My thinking is to try making some apple (and blackberry?) chutney, ideally low sugar though and most recipes use quite a bit.
You can reduce fruits like mango in the microwave to increase sweetness without removing much vitamins or fiber.
Getting the microwave out is a pain though. Chutney can be more vinegar than sugar to help preserve it but recipes do vary. A lot go for sweet and tangy. Actually some go too far with sweet when you are buying them.
Not sure specifically for apples/blackberries though, but they are something I have available in large quantities for free by just picking them off trees near footpaths.
