THANK G*D YOU PROTECTED ME FROM THIS E**L WORD

[-] donuts@lemmy.world 55 points 21 hours ago

Yeah the self censoring is fucking crazy. We're on this platform to escape that bullshit, and then it still comes fucking back?

That's ass. The picture itself doesn't even censor the word.

[-] lost@lemmy.wtf 20 points 21 hours ago

That's ass.

That's arse, surely.

[-] WizardofIs@lemmy.ml 10 points 20 hours ago

Don’t call me, Surely!!

[-] merde@sh.itjust.works 3 points 20 hours ago

is the # itself a censored tag?

[-] donuts@lemmy.world 4 points 20 hours ago* (last edited 20 hours ago)

Do you see a hashtag in the post as a social tag? original OP (on LinkedIn) did not include any. Just the image of a hashtag, and that's uncensored.

[-] merde@sh.itjust.works 2 points 20 hours ago

so censoring excludes this post from the tag chain too 🤷

[-] timik_pipik@lemy.lol 3 points 12 hours ago

Has to be a rage bait, there is no other way.

what's funny about self-censoring?

[-] doomcanoe@piefed.social 5 points 18 hours ago* (last edited 17 hours ago)

The reactions people on the internet have make me laugh.

Used to be that swearing asserted my right to free self expression. But now I live in bizzaro world, where self-censoring is considered "uncouth behavior", so I occasionally enjoy censoring my swears just to reassert my right to free self expression.

The fact the people get upset about it is kind of hilarious.

[-] donuts@lemmy.world 12 points 18 hours ago

It's considered stupid because it's catering to big Capitalism and their platforms like TikTok that mess with your views because you are using controversial words.

So it's expected to meet some resistance when you're on Lemmy.

[-] doomcanoe@piefed.social 3 points 18 hours ago* (last edited 18 hours ago)

100% agree.

I just have a chip on my shoulder about being made to speak in any particular way. So since I'm on Lemmy...

[-] Klear@quokk.au 1 points 2 hours ago

Nobody will care if you self-censor in a reasonable way, like simply not saying the word, or using euphemisms like goshdarn.

But writing f*ck is ridiculous

[-] zarkanian@sh.itjust.works 6 points 18 hours ago* (last edited 18 hours ago)

This is like those people who argue that it's really punk to be conservative, because "woke" is mainstream or something.

[-] doomcanoe@piefed.social 4 points 18 hours ago* (last edited 17 hours ago)

I'll grant that it's contrarianism for its own sake. But I would disagree with the comparison.

The core value of expressing myself how I choose is being upheld by my (albeit asinine) contrarianism.

The core values of Punks on the other hand can not be boiled down to simple contrarianism or an "anti-mainstream" ideology. And frankly the "anti-woke" Conservative movement is damn near the polar opposite of Punk values. So co-opting the term "Punk" just to make Conservatism sound rebellious/edgy/cool undermines the point of both world views.

Also, being "anti-woke" sucks @$$, while not letting people tell me how to talk F*#ks hard.
