And that’s basically it!
I mean, yeah, they are. He said before the election that he would be a dictator and the MAGA crowd was all like "yup, totally necessary, we're all for it."
The MAGAts are for it because they believe a Trump dictatorship means anybody they like gets to do whatever they want, and anybody they dislike gets thrown in jail without a trial. One by one they'll learn that it's not who they like/dislike that matters, it's who Trump likes/dislikes, and he doesn't like anybody but other autocrats and billionaires (and pedophiles, apparently).
and as soon as they turn on him for being a pedo... oops gulag
The way things have gone so far it seems more likely that they’ll become pedos to appease Trump (the ones that aren’t already anyway).
thank you for preempting my "right, 'become'" because yeah, i know some people too.
💯
Yeah. It's the type of statement where everybody on the left is mad at trump. And I get it. I totally get the anger.
But trump isn't THE problem. He's A problem.
Lets say, 2028 comes. And lets say somehow some way trump complies with the law. Two term limit. He's gone.
The problem isn't gone. Whoever replaces him on the right will be just as bad, if not worse. The problem is, as hard as it is to admit, or even say, the majority of people in this country support this type of behavior.
They support ice.
They support trans rights being suppressed.
They support racism.
I don't know if the majority supports confederates, but a large chunk of of them do.
I genuinely do not know how a bill would play out if they reinstated slavery. Optimism wants to say it fails. But the way things have gone? I can't say I'm confident.
And none of that is on trump. Thats all on the american public. Trump didn't foster these beliefs. Hitler didn't create antisemitism. They both just stirred the pot and used the chaos to gain and grow their power.
THE problem isn't trump. THE problem is America. We're just seeing an oppertunist use these problems to his/their advantage.
It’s not most people. Most people are democrats. I’m not sure about trans rights but most people are against ice and the abortion laws.
That’s why the republicans are always trying to make voting harder. If everyone voted they’d lose.
I don't think you're wrong at all.
But there's an element of "Cult of Personality" with Trump. I don't think anyone else can turn all of that hatred to a common cause the way that he has. And I think a lot of that has to do with being the poor man's idea of what a rich man is. Even back in the 80s/90s. You didn't see other billionaires cameo'ing in Home Alone 2. Or creating the Apprentice.
He cultivated an image of what "rich" looked like to gullible americans, then sic'd them on his enemies once he had the power to do so. Yes these people are racist. Yes these people are stupid. Yes these people are hate-filled assholes. But up until Trump, they were also largely being assholes in their own homes, making their families miserable instead of the rest of us.
It took Trump to give them permission to bring their shit out in public. And once he dies, I don't think anyone else in the GOP has the same cult of personality to carry it on. I think a number of people will try, and the GOP will devolve into internecine chaos.
I've been saying this for years. This is how the people in the US are. They need for life to be suffering.
yup
