I decided I'd rather die than vote for genocide.

Looks like I'll get my wish. I'm fine with that.

[-] uienia@lemmy.world 42 points 2 days ago

You say as the genocide in Gaza is being aided and abetted by Trump in a way it would never have been even by the Democrats.

You guys are so happy to throw Palestinians under the bus for your black and white worldview

[-] queermunist@lemmy.ml 1 points 1 day ago

Democrats were fully willing to help Israel annex Gaza and ethnically cleanse the strip, despite the rhetoric. They'd have done it a different way (maybe) but the end result is the same.

But with Trump, those same Democrats have been forced to come out against it! Partisanship is making long-time Israel supporters rethink their support for the genocide, and now they're speaking up.

But don't be fooled - this is only partisanship. The genocide was bipartisan before Trump, but he has a way of actually sharpening the contradictions and forcing liberals to stand for something.

I'll still vote for Democrats that come out against the genocide, but that's my red line.

Democrats wouldn't be speaking out against Israel under Harris. They'd be goose-stepping along with the administration no matter how many children Israel killed because the genocide was bipartisan before Trump.

[-] jordanlund@lemmy.world 14 points 2 days ago

Harris was speaking out about it, you just refused to listen.

July: https://www.the-independent.com/tv/news/kamala-harris-says-two-state-solution-is-the-only-path-after-meeting-with-netanyahu-b2586161.html

"two state solution is the ‘only path’ forward"

August: https://www.cnn.com/2024/08/23/politics/gaza-israel-harris-convention-speech/index.html

"Vice President Kamala Harris called for the Palestinian people to be able to “realize their right to dignity, security, freedom and self-determination”

September: https://www.pbs.org/newshour/politics/watch-harris-says-two-state-solution-end-of-israel-hamas-war-is-crucial

"we must have a two-state solution where we can rebuild Gaza where the Palestinians have security, self-determination and the dignity they so rightly deserve.”"

October: https://www.aa.com.tr/en/americas/harris-dodges-direct-question-on-palestinian-deaths-calls-for-2-state-solution-during-cnn-town-hall/3372480

""It’s unconscionable, and we are now at a place where, with (Hamas leader Yahya) Sinwar’s death, I do believe we have an opportunity to end this war, bring the hostages home, bring relief to the Palestinian people and work toward a two-state solution where Israel and the Palestinians, in equal measure, have security, where the Palestinian people have dignity, self-determination and the safety that they so rightly deserve," said Harris."

Every month from becoming the nominee until the election: cease fire, hostage release, two state solution.

These are not genocidal statements.

Trump? https://apnews.com/article/trump-biden-israel-pr-hugh-hewitt-21faee332d95fec99652c112fbdcd35d

“But they’ve got to finish what they started, and they’ve got to finish it fast, and we have to get on with life.”

[-] queermunist@lemmy.ml 3 points 1 day ago

The two State solution has always been a canard deployed by genocidiers to delay peace and prolong conflict. Israel doesn't get to have an apartheid ethnostate on stolen land, even if Palestinians get a bantustan or two.

There is only a one state solution: a multiethnic, multireligious, multiracial democracy from the river to the sea.

[-] jordanlund@lemmy.world 1 points 1 day ago

A multiethnic, multireligious, multiracial democracy would be a bloodbath. The Israelis simply will not allow it.

See the results of the various illegal settlements:

https://theconversation.com/the-quiet-war-whats-fueling-israels-surge-of-settler-violence-and-the-lack-of-state-response-261990

"United Nations estimates indicate that Jewish settlers have carried out around 2,000 attacks against Palestinians since the war in Gaza began. That number represents a dramatic surge compared with any previous period during the nearly six decades Israel has controlled the West Bank."

It would be great if everyone could live together in peace and harmony, we can't. We are hard-wired to see things in "us" vs. "them".

[-] queermunist@lemmy.ml 2 points 1 day ago

We are not hardwired to be racist colonizers, they were programmed to be this way by decades of racist and fascist propaganda.

The fact that Israelis are racist colonizers doesn't give them the right to steal the land.

I'm not hearing a reason Israel should be allowed to exist.

[-] jordanlund@lemmy.world 1 points 1 day ago

I'm not hearing a reason Israel should be allowed to exist.

Again, showing you're totally OK with genocide so long as it's a people you don't personally like. Got it.

Israel was created as a Jewish homeland because the world decided they were owed it after an organized and dedicated extermination campaign.

Yes, it was wrong to just displace the Palestinians, but it was not wrong to give Jews a homeland after centuries of European discrimination and blood libel, culminating in the Holocaust.

p.s. We are absolutely programmed to be racist.

https://www.dw.com/en/kids-arent-born-racist-but-they-do-perceive-race-early/a-68674280

"A landmark study in 2005, for instance, showed that babies perceived differences in race and exhibited preferences for their own race as early as at 3 months of age.

In a 2017 study, children associated adults of their own race with happy music, and adults of a different one with sad music — when the kids were aged just 6 to 9 months old.

While children showed a "weak racial bias" at 7 years old, by the age of 10, their bias had become "strong and reliable" in a 2014 study. White children in that study thought that Black children of the same age would feel less pain than them if they bumped their heads or bit their own tongues."

This kind of false equivalence is a form of genocide denial.

Israelis being Nazis mean they get treated like Nazi Germany.

[-] queermunist@lemmy.ml 1 points 16 hours ago* (last edited 16 hours ago)

Jews can become Palestinian and live side-by-side with Palestinian Muslims and Christians, this isn't a genocidal statement.

They can keep the parts of their culture that aren't based on settlement, white supremacy, eradication, or colonization. But they have a rotten society and Israel as a country was founded on rotten ideas and it has only rotted further. It's gotta go.

This wouldn't be a instant or simple process, but it can be compared to Nazi Germany: being occupied and having their government dismantled and undergoing denazification wasn't genocide, even though Nazi Germany ceased to exist. The same can be done to Zionist Israel.

I, for one, think marching Israelis through Gaza and forcing them to see their crimes in person would change a lot of hearts and minds. Make them smell th blood and shit and rot. Then reeducation to deprogram them from their genocidal settler beliefs.

The colonial situation dehumanizes the colonized and the colonizer, but this process can be reversed.

... Or they can go back to fucking Europe.

Wow, I mean I knew you had no idea what you were talking about, but this absolutely clinches it.

All that did was enable more genocide. Congratulations, all the shit ICE is doing is your fault.

[-] queermunist@lemmy.ml 2 points 1 day ago

ICE wasn't invented by Trump. If you look at the actual numbers he's basically just keeping up with Obama's deportations.

He's just ripped the mask off, so people realize what ICE always was. We told you about ICE before and you didn't care, and now you do. Trump makes you see what was always right in front of you.

Now. Are you going to do anything about it?

[-] Seleni@lemmy.world 15 points 2 days ago

Dude, didn’t you see their instance? They’re a tankie. They were never ‘refusing to vote for genocide’. They were always holding their vote in the hope that the evil US would destroy itself so Generous China and Glorious Mother Russia could take their place as the true and noble world leaders.

Just ignore them.

The genocide is bipartisan.

Also... do you think you're innocent? That you're absolved of this country's crimes?

Do you think that all you need to do is vote for a Democrat and you can wash your hands?

How is Trump meaningfully different on immigration then Harris? ICE existed before Trump.

[-] AbidanYre@lemmy.world 1 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

I'm having trouble believing this is an honest question.

They weren't deporting American children with cancer or using torture prisons in El Salvador for starters.

Being suicidal doesn't entitle you to take the rest us down with you! You've clutched your pearls so hard that you've managed to bloody your hands anyway.

Quit being unethical in the name of ethics.

Don’t break an arm jerking yourself off, there, hero.
