Level 2 of The Lion King game for Sega Genesis absolutely ruined this song for 7yo me. WHY WOULD ANY SANE PERSON MAKE A CHILDREN'S GAME SO DAMN HARD?!
If it weren't so hard, you'd notice how short it was.

Yeah - if you take a look at YouTube, full playthroughs are ~30 minutes long. Speedruns have it at 13 minutes. There are 10 stages.
Excellent game though. I loved that shit.
I've heard that Disney made the game harder to make it so you had to rent it multiple times.
Did studios get a cut of game rentals? I don't actually know how that worked
No idea. It was just something I heard, like I said. I imagine that even if they don't get a cut, they could market it to blockbuster as being designed for repeat rental.
EDIT: so I looked it up. They made it intentionally hard so you couldn't finish it on a rental and would be more likely to buy the cartridge.
