A report in Australia found that the worst brands for data collection were Tesla (American), Hyundai (Korean), and Kia (Korean).
Admittedly, the report did not include any Chinese brands other than MG, so this doesn't necessarily exonerate Chinese brands, but it does at least show that China should not be the only target of this sort of thing.
The best brands were Japanese cars other than Mazda.
Yes, it's more likely "only we can collect car data".
