I've never been called a tankie, and neither have any of my friends or girlfriends. And we're all communists.

Maybe you're being called a tankie because you're a radical centrist.

[-] pjwestin@lemmy.world 18 points 4 months ago

.world definitely has a problem distinguishing between Tankies and leftists. I've literally had a guy argue with me that tankie and Bernie Bro were interchangeable because, "definitions change."

[-] MummysLittleBloodSlut 9 points 4 months ago

Well I love Bernie. When he told me he wasn't running in 2024, and he wanted me to support Kamala, I listened. And I've never been called a tankie. Maybe it comes down to individual differences.

[-] pjwestin@lemmy.world 4 points 4 months ago

I also voted for Kamala and I also haven't been called a tankie (at least yet). But I've seen multiple liberals on .world call leftists tankies, often without understanding the meaning. At first, I found it very strange, since I'd only ever seen that term used in leftist circles. It made more sense when I realized they picked it up from .ml, which, to be fair, had a lot of fucking tankies.

[-] MummysLittleBloodSlut 3 points 4 months ago

Ohhh, so it's the tankies who are responsible for this. That makes sense.

That reminds me of how Israel tells everyone that killing people is part of the Jewish identity, and then complains when people believe them

[-] smol_beans@lemmy.world 2 points 4 months ago

You're a tankie, you voted for someone who sent tanks to a genocidal regime, that makes you a tankie.

Now you can't say you've never been called a tankie.

[-] MummysLittleBloodSlut 3 points 4 months ago

I've only ever been called a tankie by a tankie who was making some kind of point

[-] smol_beans@lemmy.world 2 points 4 months ago

But you have been called a tankie

Which is pretty suspicious honestly

[-] kittenzrulz123 14 points 4 months ago

I was once called a tankie just for critiquing the fact that Kamala didn't clearify her positions on her campaign website, even though I voted for her anyway the fact that I didn't show unquestioning loyalty to the party makes me a tankie... Wait a minute... Demanding unquestioning loyalty to the party... Where have I heard that before?

[-] MummysLittleBloodSlut 1 points 4 months ago

Don't you, like, run a hate community targeted at her?

[-] kittenzrulz123 8 points 4 months ago

No, I run a left wing community thats explicitly left wing in nature. Liberalism is right wing, so naturally we arent supportive. Furthermore my community tends to lean more libertarian left (workers democracy) and anarchist so we arent a big fan of liberal electoralism.

[-] MummysLittleBloodSlut 1 points 4 months ago

Wow, I wish I didn't care who the president was. I wanna stop fearing for my girlfriends' lives.

[-] BrainInABox@lemmy.ml 7 points 4 months ago

Yeah, fearing for the life of loved ones should only be for Palestinians, right?

[-] MummysLittleBloodSlut 2 points 4 months ago

I want as few Palestinians to fear for their lives as possible. I wish Trump hadn't won the election and promised to turn Gaza into a US colony. Now it's only going to get worse. I wish we were fighting Kamala to make things better. She's easier to pressure. Now we're stuck fighting Trump to make things worse slower.

[-] BrainInABox@lemmy.ml 4 points 4 months ago

I wish Trump hadn’t won the election and promised to turn Gaza into a US colony. Now it’s only going to get worse.

See? Here's the problem, the Democrats were doing the exact same thing to Gaza, but you were a denialist when it was your team doing it. At least under Trump you actually acknowledge what's happening (even if you still deny what was happening under the Democrats)

I wish we were fighting Kamala to make things better. She’s easier to pressure.

Receipts? Because over a year of pressure didn't get the Democrats to budge even one inch, and for the entirety of that time the "vote blue no matter who" crowd actively opposed that pressure while also engaging in denialism to defend the Democrats.

[-] Sunshine@lemmy.ca 2 points 4 months ago

AIPAC had to spend 100s of millions to get Israel friendly democrats elected instead because they were scared the decent democrats would win the races and stop supporting genocide thanks to all the protesting people were doing.

[-] BrainInABox@lemmy.ml 6 points 4 months ago

Yeah, and it worked. The Democratic party remains dominated by hardcore ideological Zionists who didn't move one inch in response to pressure, even if it cost them the election.

[-] Sunshine@lemmy.ca 2 points 4 months ago* (last edited 4 months ago)

You're missing the point, if it didn't work the zionists wouldn't had to spend so much money to affect an election in their favour.

Citizen's united, first-past-the-post and the relentless attacks on the objectively better candidate really screwed people over during the election. Donald Trump is way worse on Palestine and on every other issue.

[-] BrainInABox@lemmy.ml 5 points 4 months ago* (last edited 4 months ago)

You’re missing the point, if it didn’t work the zionists wouldn’t had to spend so much money to affect an election in their favour.

No, the point is that it didn't make a lick of difference to the actual situation in Gaza. Also, Zionists spend just as much on Republicans, so you're point doesn't work even if it were relevant.

Trump is way worse on Palestine

He objectively isn't, you're just a denialist when it's your team doing it. In that sense, Trump is slightly better for Palestine, because at least under him, liberals are willing to acknowledge the extent of what's happening and stop engaging in denialism and excuse making.

[-] Sunshine@lemmy.ca 1 points 4 months ago

More than half of Democrats also say the Israeli government bears “a lot” of responsibility for the continuation of the war, compared to about 4 in 10 Republicans.

On the other hand, about half of Republicans say they sympathize more with the Israelis than the Palestinians, while Democrats are more likely to say they sympathize with both groups equally.

[-] BrainInABox@lemmy.ml 5 points 4 months ago

What exactly is your point? Because none of that has any bearing on what I've said, and it seems like you're just desperately throwing non-sequitors at the wall to defend the Democrats. (Which reinforces my "at least under Trump, liberals don't engage in these disengenuous defences of genocide" perspective.)

Yup, at least with the democrats you can protest without being kidnapped into a van on the way to El Salvador.

[-] BrainInABox@lemmy.ml 6 points 4 months ago

It's amazing how blueMAGA libs are incapable of talking about the Palestinian genocide in terms of actual Palestinian people. They can only think about it in terms of how it will affect Americans. 2,500,000 people being exterminated is forgivable, so long as the impotent domestic protests are being brutalized in the proper way.

[-] smol_beans@lemmy.world 3 points 4 months ago

I wish we were fighting Kamala to make things better. She’s easier to pressure.

But every time us pro-palestinian people tried to put pressure on Kamala we were called tankies. Are you a tankie?

I’ve never been called a tankie

we’re all communists.

I've got bad news for you...

[-] davel@lemmy.ml 10 points 4 months ago

That’s because nobody is called “tankie” in real life. No one has called me a “tankie” either. The term’s contemporary usage is a creature of social media. It’s a dumb, cringey online meme.

[-] MummysLittleBloodSlut 2 points 4 months ago

Hmmmmmmmmmm... nah. It's from the 1950s. They didn't have 9gag back then

[-] davel@lemmy.ml 9 points 4 months ago

Again:

The term’s contemporary usage

[-] MummysLittleBloodSlut 2 points 4 months ago

So you're a tankie in real life?

[-] davel@lemmy.ml 9 points 4 months ago

Have you stopped beating your wife?

Ask a dozen people what “tankie” means and you’ll get a dozen conflicting answers. It’s a floating signifier for dismissing those to one’s political left. It’s a thought-terminating cliché rhetorical device.

[-] BrainInABox@lemmy.ml 5 points 4 months ago

And none of those dozen answers will correspond to how any of them actually use the word

[-] Sunshine@lemmy.ca 2 points 4 months ago

Tankies dont say slava ukranini!

[-] davel@lemmy.ml 4 points 4 months ago* (last edited 4 months ago)

Of course not: it’s a slogan that came directly from the fascist Banderites. Why would communists, who have shed more blood fighting fascists than anyone, adopt a fascist slogan?

Jacobin, 2015: Who Was Stepan Bandera?

[-] smol_beans@lemmy.world 3 points 4 months ago

What's a ukranini? Like a Ukrainian panini?

Also I want peace and prosperity for all people of Ukraine and I've been called a tankie lots of times

[-] Sunshine@lemmy.ca 3 points 4 months ago

Russia needs to completely pull out of Ukraine then you will have peace.

[-] smol_beans@lemmy.world 3 points 4 months ago

I want peace and prosperity for all Ukrainians.

You want to fight Russia to the last Ukrainian

We are not the same

[-] Sunshine@lemmy.ca 3 points 4 months ago

The ukranians are fighting to protect their country out of free will. Stop victim blaming, you should spend your energy telling Russia to knock it off.

[-] krolden@lemmy.ml 1 points 4 months ago

Slobber uranium

[-] smol_beans@lemmy.world 9 points 4 months ago

Isnt radical centrist an oxymoron?

[-] mojofrododojo@lemmy.world 11 points 4 months ago
[-] MummysLittleBloodSlut 3 points 4 months ago

Yeah, supporting workers and dictators at the same time is pretty oxymoronic. But it's perfectly balanced, as all things should be

[-] Muyal@lemmy.world 8 points 4 months ago

I don't think you know what communism actually is.
