There's a way to do that: it's called "build your mod on top of a FOSS game instead of proprietary shit."
But the problem isn't that the mod is based on BG3. It's a mod for Stardew Valley. It just uses characters from BG3.
Making the mod for a FOSS game instead wouldn't change anything. The only solution would be making a Tux-mod for Stardew Valley instead. And who tf wants to play that?
I'm sure Club Penguin players may be interested.
Idk I'd romance the fuck outta xenia in SV though.
Sure a tux mod might not do well, but people love their foxgirls.
