Is this community though of as an alternative to !fediverse@lemmy.world (too big) and !fediverse@lemmy.ml (too authoritarian)?

Yes, that's the idea!

I think !fediversenews@piefed.social is indeed made to be more news oriented than the other existing Fediverse communities, so in that sense I think they can co-exist well. Piefed users don’t mind anyway, we have feeds. ;)

Can you imagine, years ago how the internet was before? We know Facebook, Twitter, Tiktok, Youtube. We knew blogger, Tumblr, Skyrock... and long before, it was the forum era as phpBB..and mail-lists.
