France is the same as the US, just a few years behind.

This stupid senator is part of a party led by an anti-ecology, homophobic islamophobic dumbass, they just all want to do like Trump, just in their own time and version.

Opposing the US is just about taking advantage of the situation to say "look, I am reasonable, unlike them" and has nothing to do with what they think.

This speech reflected nothing that is like Trump.
He defends EU (the closest alliance France is in) This is contrary to how Trump behaves towards allies.
He also strongly defends democracy, also very contrary to how Trump behaves.

Being afraid of something that is evidently harmful and dangerous is not a phobia.

So the only thing remaining is that he may be homophobic, which is irrelevant in this context. And yes he absolutely sounds a lot more reasonable than Trump.

I clearly wasn't talking about the speech, but the party and more specifically its leader.

Where are you getting the anti ecology and the far right racism from?

It sounds like you're describing the Regroupement Nationale of Lepen, but this is the Les Indépendants party, which is center right by France's standards - it's basically a party aligned with Elizabeth Warren's views.

In this super propagandized environment we're in, i find comments like this deplorable (if not dangerous)... Unless it's an honest mistake?

Are you trolling (or actively propaganding?)

These are 2 different individuals from 2 different parties. Both center right by French standards, which makes them center left by US standards, but Claude Malhuret is absolutely not the same person as Edouard Philippe.

I said that the senator is part of a party led by a piece of shit. How does that mean they are the same person?

Are you trolling (or actively refusing to read)?

[-] Ulvain@sh.itjust.works 1 points 1 day ago

But it's not even the same party?

I guarantee a view like that is not a mistake, it's moronic at best

In the future, please try to verify if what you're saying is true before you post. It make you look like a troll.

You could have replied with Charles de Gaulle's Wikipedia page and it wouldn't have been less relevant.

(Btw this means you don't know what you are talking about)

[-] Solumbran@lemmy.world 2 points 1 day ago

I talked about the leader of the party of this senator, then linked a page about him.

What is going on with people here?

[-] tabarnaski@sh.itjust.works 1 points 1 day ago

France is not like the US. There's no such thing as a party line and party leaders do not have as much influence on members as is the case in the US.
