You can set libredirect to use FreeTube.
That's what I am doing but it doesn't work for EMBEDDED, which is the point of this post.
doesn't work I think. block embedded stuff and make it so that when you click on the placeholder, it opens FreeTube
That's what I want to do and was my initial question. How do I do that with medium mode enabled?
i dont, as I came to the conclusion that medium mode is too much work and not worth it (especially on mobile). Got Phoenix and manually imported some of the blocklists into Ironfox (for example "⛔ yokoffing's click2load filters" does what is described in the x-post you linked, but as you noted, you will still connect youtube
ok, thanks for the confirmation, looks like there is no option to achieve what I want.
seems to work fine actually, way easier than i thought. 👌
What browser are you using and can you please post a site with embedding that does not work for you.
I have Librewolf, Ublock set to medium mode, libredirect Redirect Type set to both, Embed Frontend set to Invidious but with no instance selected.
Most sites with embedded youtube have 'Watch on Youtube' bottom left and you can just right click and select Redirect in librediract. Some don't have that but most allow right click where you can select the url that can be pasted into FreeTube.
Hey, thanks for the reply.
I have exactly the same setup as you, I also use librewolf and all sites that have embedded youtube (or any embedded video) don't work.
This one for example: https://www.androidauthority.com/hands-on-one-ui-7-home-up-3522949/
With medium mode enabled I just have a white space in the middle of the article. When I manually allow "youtube.com" and "google.com" the video loads.
Do you get a different behavior?
I have it set up with "only not embedded" and then I let the preview load and click on the YouTube link to make it pop out and it redirects to Invidious and works. Not directly watching it embedded, but it works well enough for me. I just tested this site on my phone and it worked. Should work on desktop similarly. Just with this you have to get to the point where it loads the preview of the video at least, so you can click to open it outside of the embed.
I use librewolf on desktop and IronWolf on mobile with the libredirect plugin. And I have a pihole that does ad blocking, so eventhough I don't have YouTube totally blocked, it refuses to play even with a wide open browser.
I've never gotten the embedded option to work, but Google is constantly fighting Invidious, and pop-out is a minor inconvenience for me.
I mean sure, but "to get the preview to work" means I have to globally unblock google.com and youtube.com which means all sites can track me at that point which I am not willing to accept. I think you have those two domains not blocked? Otherwise I don't see how it could work, no matter if you use the "embedded option" in libredirect or not.
Thanks for testing it!
