I'm not even in the US and I'm worrying. Especially due to the fact that I'm both Moroccan and queer (specifically aroace). Guess I'm not visiting the US at all during his term.

[-] surewhynotlem@lemmy.world 42 points 5 days ago

Don't visit us. Don't travel here. They need to understand there's financial consequences to making this country unwelcoming.

[-] Resol@lemmy.world 17 points 5 days ago

This is the advice I'm following. And it's really sad because I was so interested in seeing the US in person for a really long time. Now some scumbag came to ruin it all.

We'd love to see you after we fix our little fascist infestation.

I just heard an ad on a podcast inviting me to visit Key West, Florida, which is apparently an LGBT resort paradise.

Not happening, not even if they paid me.

[-] surewhynotlem@lemmy.world 3 points 5 days ago

I live in the US and I'm also boycotting Florida. We used to go to Disney a couple times a year, and my kids miss it, but I'm not getting accidentally caught up in that crazy.

We're never alone. Community is our strength. This is as important right now as ever.

[-] mrslt@lemmy.world 3 points 5 days ago

As a Californian, take us with you?

[-] Banana@sh.itjust.works 4 points 5 days ago

Would love to have California as an ally if the secession goes through!

Regular Americans seeking refuge from fascism aren't my enemies though. Rich fuckers hoarding wealth from the working class are.

Ace of hearts here:

At least us ace folk can hide more easily. Nobody knows I'm ace unless I specifically tell them. I don't hide it - it's just not a topic that comes up. I'm just a single dude as far as most people know.

[-] Resol@lemmy.world 7 points 5 days ago

It's not really as easy for me because I've been a victim of sexual harassment quite a few times, mostly by men (I am male). Classmates keep resenting me for "not acting normal" and have accused me of misogyny and being gay. Parents called my asexuality "not normal at all". Hell, my dad accused me of atheism simply for not wanting children. I just can't stand being bullied by society all the time.

[-] grysbok@lemmy.sdf.org 2 points 5 days ago

I'm also ace, but I live with an opposite sex partner, so that helps me look less queer. We're both gender non-conforming (I'm non-binary, he's unlabeled), but that's something we can tone down.

I can't tell if you're in high school or college. Things got easier for me when I moved away for college. I got to figure out who I was, away from my family and people that knew me as a child. I went to an engineering school and it was wonderful to have a bunch of other misfits to hang out with. Looking back, I think my new friend group was very non-neurotypical.

Anyways, I hope you find a good, supportive friend group.

Thank you so much.

Btw I finished high school years ago.

Screw 'society'. You're better than 'society'.

If you're ever in Seattle, DM me and I'll take you to breakfast.

[-] Resol@lemmy.world 2 points 5 days ago

I'm still in Morocco, unfortunately. I've never even been to Seattle.

Ace of hearts

Always there's some new insider lingo I don't know. Sounds good, but what's it mean?

[-] chiliedogg@lemmy.world 2 points 5 days ago

Romantic asexual. My gf and I do all the couple stuff, minus the sexuality.

For most, we definitely appear to most people to be a regular heterosexual couple.

So we really fly under the radar.

Forget about our politics, don’t come here because if something happens and you need healthcare you’re fucked.

[-] Resol@lemmy.world 1 points 5 days ago

Guess I'll never attend those fun conventions.

[-] inv3r5ion@lemmy.dbzer0.com 1 points 4 days ago

Well if you want to anyway maybe there’s special travel insurance you can buy that covers it or maybe your governments insurance will cover it. Just be careful about that, it’s the quickest path to bankruptcy for us.

[-] Resol@lemmy.world 1 points 4 days ago

My income isn't that high anyway, so... I guess I really won't attend the fun conventions.
