The goal is to remake the US into something else. A Christian Patriarchy + Oiligarchy with sham voting every four years. The biggest wild card in their plans is Trump, but as long as he gets to pretend he's Putin 2.0 -- which literally means being able to point his finger to see someone killed -- he'll be happy and easy to play.

Overall, there's no limit to how fucked we are. There are no brakes and there's no steering wheel.

Think militias deputized as enforcers.

Think protests put down by the military ordered to shoot to kill.

Think indoctrination of children and political/militaristic organizations for teens.

Think history books rewritten, science education dumbed down, evolution and global warming illegal to even mention.

Think marriage rights taken away.

Think voting rights taken away and voting laws rammed through to ensure Republicans win.

Think Republicans getting enough state legislatures both to call a Constitutional Convention and to ratify a slew of amendments to rework citizenship, enshrine Christianity into the constitution, and generally butcher the Bill of Rights.

Think "real Americans" going after and imprisoning and/or killing hundreds, thousands, millions of other Americans.

Think purity tests and identification papers, total surveillance, digital tracking of every word and action and movement.

Think of your street with a dead body in the middle of it and everyone afraid to go near it.

Think of being terrified for your own life if you accidentally hear someone say something against The Party.

Think of this very comment used as evidence to lock me up or have me killed.

There is nothing, nothing at all, standing in their way. Like in most one-party systems, the competition among the players will be to see how extreme they can get in order to prove themselves to their party, while the rest of us who vainly hope they'll show restraint will pay the price.

I hope I'm wrong about most of the above. It may not get that bad. But, again, we've gone over the cliff and there's nowhere but a helluva lot of straight down.

Love this idea.

If the zombie's body still has some link to the soul such that it could see and react to the ghost, they could make an extremely awkward yet dangerous team.

"Come over this way, buddy! Brains over here!"

"Brainsh?" Shuffle, shuffle.

"Yup, see?" The ghost points triumphantly at a hamster cage. "Lots of juicy little brains to eat!"

"Awww... Tired of mowsh brainsh! WANT HOOMAN BRAINSH!"

Zombie takes another vicious swipe at the ghost but finds only air.

"Why can no eat you brainsh again?"

"As I've explained all evening, I'm ethereal, not really here, sorry, friend. It's mouse or nothing."

The zombie's shoulders slump in disappointment, but he turns to the hamster cage. The hamsters peer back, vaguely uneasy.

"C'mere cute liddle mowshes..."

Clang, squeak, munch, munch, munch.

That's an absolutely awful video. Loud, obnoxious, disingenuous and not even remotely as funny, informative, comprehensive, or clever as the idiot who made it thinks it is. It's valueless content made to be ingested and served up by an algorithm.

11

This one pushed the limits. It's a little over-the-top for a wireless build but it's alive and thocking.

This is a 4x6 whole matrix Dactyl Manuform. The case is printed in translucent smoke resin with an acrylic coating.

It's fully wireless running some of the latest ZMK features. Here's the list:

  • Trackball support with a PMW3610 sensor utilizing inorichi's new driver and the in-development pointing device setup (it's imminent). It has precision and drag scroll modes enabled on Raise and Lower layers.
  • Two Nice!View screens running their standard ZMK widgets -- battery status, connection status, WPM graph, device connection, and current layer.
  • Both standard EC11 and wheel-style EVQWGD001 rotary encoders. Volume up/down, page scrolling, and RGB controls on Raise.
  • Full hardware per-key RGB running ZMK's Underglow configuration. (ZMK doesn't yet support true per-key RGB.)
  • Four layers with support for the Nick Coutsos' ZMK keymap layer editor

It's all running on a pair of PillBug nRF52840 controllers from MechWild and powered by a couple of thick 18650 LiPo batteries. I used Skree Claw flexible PCBs from TheBigSkree for the right and left key matrices which worked out really nicely using his Translator breakout.

Oh, and those are Kailh Purple Pro switches, if you were curious.

It's a lot. It's pushing and/or exceeding the limits feature-wise, power-wise, pin-wise, and memory-wise. But it's alive. The right side PillBug is very nearly maxed out. There were foibles along the way and one or two (or ten) bang-head-on-desk moments, but it all came off in the end.

So.

We're having a light snack of a sale this weekend to celebrate the success of this build. Get 5% off any order with code WYLD_LIGHT_SNACK. Ends midnight, March 31st.

Just, you know, hanging and drinking cider at the arcade bar with the latest Wylderbuilds keyboard.

Another jumbo build, a full row 6x7 Dactyl Manuform with dual trackballs. It's got 88 keys total, like a grand piano, so if you're layer-averse, this one's for you.

It's got a gorgeous dark navy gray resin case with a matte acrylic finish and shiny black trackballs. If you squint a little, it might tingle your spidey-sense. It's a beautiful build and a real joy to type on.

And it's that time of year when we celebrate all things Ireland! Which is nice!

But, I have to ask, what about poor Iceland? Doesn't Iceland deserve some love, too?

Bjordagur, Beer Day, was on March 1st, but let's go with that! From now until midnight of March 18, the day after St. Patrick's Day, we're celebrating beer in general with 15% off all orders over $100 at Wylderbuilds! Just use code BEER_BEER_BEER at checkout!

Is it Godzilla?? An active volcano?? A runaway nuclear reactor??

Well, no, clearly not.

But it IS a brooding 6x7 Dactyl Manuform keyboard build with a dark navy gray resin case and RGB underglow LEDs. Add a purple trackball, dual OLEDs, and dual rotary encoders, and you've got an (ergonomic!) weapon of ginormous productive power.

It's running QMK firmware with all the whistles and bells. Full Vial support so you can easily tinker with your keymaps, monkey around with macros, and choreograph your tap-dances.

We also offer fully wireless builds running ZMK firmware with all of its whistles and bells! Just be prepared to carry around a car battery if you want ALL the features.

Hello, all. Lots of stuff going on here.

These pictures aren't full builds, obviously. Rather, they're trial prints of some standard dactyl manuform models I plan to offer. They'll be available as kits and for full builds at a solidly lower price point than our fully custom builds. I want to make manuforms with a nice selection of bells and whistles more generally affordable.

So, I'd like to gauge the thoughts of folks on here and see what features as standard make the most sense.

That's a 6x7 in the main image, but I'm also planning a 3x6:

A 3x6

And a 5x6:

And a 5x6

My current plan is that they include by default:

A. One trackball with regular pointer and dragscroll modes. Can choose left side or right side.

B. One rotary encoder above the trackball set as volume control and mute on base layer and page up/page down on other layers.

C. One OLED screen on the non-trackball side displaying current keymap layer, active mod keys, mouse mode, and words-per-minute.

D. Pi Pico or other rp2040 controllers.

E. USB-C cabling all around.

F. QMK firmware with Vial support for editing the keymaps, layers, and other features on the fly.

As a base set of features, how do those sound to folks?

Outstanding bits I'm still debating:

A. Are there other sizes missing here that you'd all rather see? 3x5? 4x6? 6x6?

B. Hot swap support always or hand-wired switches? If hard-wired, what selection of switches and keycaps would you like to see? I know that's an insane question as the options are endless. The point here is lower cost, though, not high end. I want to offer whole-package builds, ready to plug in and start typing, and forgoing hot swap would save on overall cost and build time.

C. Wireless? ZMK firmware is coming on strong and I'm doing quite a few wireless builds these days. It would add to price considerably, though.

D. Any other features? Other firmwares? Other controllers or hardware?

Would love to hear any and all thoughts.

And, of course, here's the plug for the store:

There's still slots to get a full build at 10% off! Just use discount code WYLD_BUNCH at checkout.

https://wylderbuilds.com/shop/p/dactyl-manuform-build

Also, I have DOZENS of old stock prints. Test prints. Prints with the wrong features or sizing. And, of course, prints with slight failures or cosmetic issues. Since dactyl manuforms are such a departure for most people, I'm offering these halves at five bucks a pop (plus shipping) so anyone curious can actually throw switches on and get their hands on one to see how it feels. It'll be a random side and size, just specify if you want left or right ($5 each) or both ($9). If you get both, just know they're unlikely to match if we don't have a matching pair.

They're usually set up so one is a standard pointing device and the other is used for content scrolling. I also had one customer who wanted both as pointing devices, but the left one with DPI set for very fine movements.

23

Instead of the shiny end-result I usually post for Wylderbuilds, I thought I'd post a build near the finish line. It's a dual trackball 3x6 Dactyl Manuform. The case is printed in black PETG and I'm using custom breakouts for Pi Pico controllers along with flexible PCBs on the columns (from The Big Skree,https://skree.us)

The trackball sensors are PMW3360s. I have a guide for setting them up with QMK here:

https://wylderbuilds.com/trackball-install

SHH, IT'S OK, EVERYTHING'S FINE, YOU DON'T HAVE TO SHOUT, BUT YES, IT'S GOT AN F-ROW, YES. IS THAT SO VERY WRONG?

54

Nope, you're not seeing double. It's two identical Polydactyl builds (the Polydactyl is a big, flatter Dactyl Manuform variant.)

These two massive monsters feature:

  • 87 keys total.
  • White resin cases.
  • Dual trackballs (scroller on left, pointer on right.)
  • Dual OLEDs.
  • Rotary mouse-wheel style encoder.
  • NEW! Per-key RGB backlighting.
  • All running QMK on Pi Pico controllers with Vial support.

They're massive! But we build all shapes and sizes with as many or as few fancy features as you'd like!

And it's that time of year!

This time it's a minimal build, a 3x6 Dactyl Manuform with dual encoders on the right pinky column.

This build is printed in a shimmer black PLA that always comes out remarkably well. The silver trackball on the right does the pointing thing and the gold on the left navigates content via drag scroll. It's a terrific little Miryoku-ready keyboard with the latest QMK firmware and full Vial support.

Sizes range from 3x5 to 6x7 with cases printed in resin or PLA. All builds are fully hot-swappable, run on QMK, KMK, or ZMK, and now use USB-C for all connections (except wireless models.)

Other options include:

  • Bluetooth Wirless support.
  • Trackballs (one or two).
  • OLED screens.
  • Rotary encoders (wheel encoders now supported!)
  • RGB Underglow
  • A selection of Kailh switches.

I was actually going to respond with the Discworld series in general, but Death's dialogue there puts it in a nutshell. We're not creatures of reason, but of narrative, fiction. I might not have come to that view if not for reading Terry Pratchett.

Yeah, it's a lot, isn't it?

This is the most feature-rich build I've done yet at Wylderbuilds.

It's a... (big breath in)... Full 6x7 Dactyl Manuform printed in translucent blue PLA with full hot-swap support, dual trackballs, dual OLED screens, dual rotary encoders, underglow RGB, running QMK... wheeze... with Vial support... gasp... on Pi Pico controllers!

PS. The switches shown are my test switches used during builds. They're not included in the build as it's fully hot swap capable, so customers can use any switches they like. The switches on the left are Kailh Speed Copper and on the right they're Kailh Purple Pros. I didn't have enough of either for the whole, vast keyboard.

You hate it precisely because of how you described it. It's a game where you often end up paying a price, where the reveal is more often a punishment, not a reward. You've sensibly learned to dread it.

His half of the game is that always gets is to see your reaction in the moment. If it's something bad, he gets a big reaction out of you. It's always a payout for him. Not for you.

[-] wylderbuilds@lemmy.world 4 points 1 year ago

I'm actually using a flexible column PCB that I solder the rows together. It's a little finicky, there are better options, like these:
