I was going to suggest just getting receipts (still only solving part of the problem) and using a spreadsheet. Why overthink it? Then I was reminded by my own ADHD that I haven't screwed around with spreadsheets in a while and am now off to play around with pivot tables. Immediately demonstrating why this is a bad solution.

I'm not seeing a problem here

What we call a centimeter can be however large we choose. Say it were twice as large as it is now and we all agreed that size is a centimeter. What if we chose the inch and the centimeter to be the same size? Agreement doesn't negate the fact that we could have chosen it to be any arbitrary size.

The only true "universals" are universal constants like the speed of light or Planck's Constant. They set boundaries and scales irrespective of the units we use to describe them.

The size of an inch or a centimeter is arbitrary. In fact, all measurements other than natural units are arbitrary. Units need not scale linearly either. E.g. dB or the Richter Scale. A women's number 11 or a size 10 shoe or a meter are all equally valid units of measure. What is fucked is the delineation of "men's" and "women's" sizes and the fact that women's clothes have fewer and shallower pockets.

Insert xkcd about standards. I know. I know.

Here's the thought. What if we made a distro called Doors as a replacement for windows, but don't call it a distro? We don't even call it Linux. We just called it Doors.

The most pedantic among us will say something like it's GNU/Linux/Doors, but regular folks would, and currently do, ignore that person. We just praise the merits of Doors and they jump out the window(s)

Thoughts?

P.S. I've been in the process of migrating my parents for some time now. We are at the last step now that I've set up Nextcloud. It didn't take my folks long to understand the ethical cataclysm that is windows/microsoft, but the fear of change, both to something foreign in nature and use, kept them back for a long time. I want to continue a conversation we often have around a critical topic. Perhaps in an unusual direction.

I am so close to getting my family to switch to Linux. A replacement for one drive, preferably a Proton one, is the last thing to tip the scales

I imagine most of you, like me, don't. Just another datapoint.

But, I recently got a new jig for my table saw, and I saw this paper one. Is there any reason to register other than the warranty? Should I fill these out for my larger, more expensive tools?

In terms of cost of an ad to earnings, and how well, even a targeted ad, can hold a viewer's attention. Have we just become numb to ads? Does targeted advertising actually yield better results?

It's only a matter of time before they require a subscription, have a privacy and cookie policy, and are loaded with ads and ai filth.

Please god no

The rubber trim in the wheel well of my sister's car separated from the steel frame. What's the best way to reattach it?

Obviously I'll clean the steel and rubber with soap and water, and probably use some kind of adhesive. I know it needs to be weather proof and vibration proof. I was thinking construction adhesive, but I think that would fail the vibration test. Then I thought epoxy, but standard epoxy would probably have the same issue. What about steel reinforced epoxy?

Any other suggestions? Should I use an abbrasive like steel wool?

When you go to the website and click to download, you are redirected to a letter to the community. I heard there is/was a changing of the guard and development is on hiatus. Does this mean you can't download CalyxOS from them at all anymore? Is this a reflection of the actions google is taking with the play store?

Should I be looking at a different OS than CalyxOS? I'm currently running /e/ amd was interested in trying something else. Do you have any other suggestions of privacy driven OS's?

Sorry for so many questions 🤣

I recently detailed my car and in many spots what I assumed were bug guts were little rust spots. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to handle this? I know you can buy paint that roughly matches the car's paint, but is there some kind of sealer I should use first?

Pop!OS. It is maintained by a company called System76 who make Linux computers. You might think about getting one if you want a new computer. Support the cause!
