Again <30% want independence from China

[-] voaw@lemmy.world 7 points 8 hours ago

The “government” of Taiwan is the equivalent of if MAGA invaded Hawaii and claimed that the rest of the continental US was now called Hawaii and ruled by them. The Taiwanese govt is a historically far-right US puppet govt that is one of the biggest supporters of Israel and its genocide. And according to polling in Taiwan, less than 30% of Taiwanese people want independence from China.

We could debate this for hours or longer (as people in that Guardian article’s comments section were) and never convince each other. The fact that it is so disputed and the details are not fully known, and the fact that Obama literally said the use of chemical weapons by Syria would cross a red line a year before the attack, and knowing the history of the US empire and its relentless greed and hunger for power and control, I am inclined to believe it was a false flag, just as you are inclined to believe the CIA propaganda/Western mainstream media line that every leader of a sovereign state that stands strong against US hegemony is a baby murdering dictator (even though all of the presidents of USrael are themselves baby murdering dictators). But I’m just a fringe tankie moron so don’t listen to me.

[-] voaw@lemmy.world 3 points 19 hours ago

If you read the reporting from Grayzone, you’d have seen that the study done by MIT proved that the sarin missiles used would not have reached Ghouta if sent from the Syria Armed Forces and that video footage showed Liwa Al Islam (a foe of the Syrian Armed Forces funded and armed by the Saudis, and probably the US) committed the attacks (and the US blaming it on Assad helped manufacture consent for their regime change war). But details (and innocent lives) don’t matter to you imperialist psychopaths. Like I said, all you care about is your personal, privileged comfort and peace of mind, and I’ve obviously hit a nerve as evidenced by how ferociously you’re attacking me.

And just so we’re clear, since the details matter, imperialism is not defined as “having a military” and “defending one’s own sovereign country.” It is, as defined by your favorite, Wikipedia, “the maintaining and extending of power over foreign nations, particularly through expansionism, employing both hard power (military and economic power) and soft power (diplomatic power and cultural imperialism). Imperialism focuses on establishing or maintaining hegemony and a more formal empire.“ As an anti-imperialist, my politics are based on fighting not only imperialism, the highest form of capitalism, but also capitalism, US hegemony, and the evils and chaos that the US wreaks upon the free peoples of our world so that billionaires can buy more yachts.

And if you cared so fucking much about genocide, you’d think you’d care about the fact that the US & Israel are committing multiple genocides now with impunity and your precious mainstream media is literally egging it on and platforming regime change architects, warmongering diasporoids, and fuck ass CIA propaganda, resulting in the death and carnage happening every day that everyone in the US govt fully supports. I know what side you’re on and it’s not the side trying to stop the death and destruction.

Lastly, you have indeed created a hell for tankies and for all oppressed peoples across the world by supporting liberal capitalists and imperialists in power (who are all funded by the same billionaires and Zionists as Trump). I wouldn’t wish the same for you (unless you’re a Zio billionaire) and sincerely hope you can find a way to do some good, or at least stop attacking the people that are trying to do some good in this miserable capitalist hellscape we’re all trying to survive our way through.

Love how you constantly quote Wikipedia as if it’s some unbiased source that isn’t just a mashup of propaganda sourced from US-funded AGM outlets.

Sorry to disrupt your sense of comfort with a dose of reality. I know the ultimate goal of you libs is to protect your peace of mind at all costs, no matter how much you have to ferociously attack leftists and ignore the death and destruction your Democrat politician heroes inflict upon the Global South and the innocent civilians of the Middle East.

Because they’re non-billionaire funded, anti-imperialist, independent media that provide real perspectives and info that mainstream media purposely omits (for the purpose of manufacturing consent for regime change wars and preserving US hegemony around the globe)?

A historic synagogue in Tehran, originally built in 1958, was destroyed on the Jewish holiday of Passover by Israeli airstrikes on April 7th.

The Rafi-Nia Synagogue, located in central Tehran, was one of the longstanding institutions serving Iran’s Jewish community. Constructed in 1958, it stood as both a place of worship and a symbol of the deep historical roots of Judaism in Iran, which stretch back more than two millennia.

“We are Iranian Jews and we are always ready to sacrifice our lives for our homeland,” Bihdad Mikhail, managing director of the Tehran Jewish Association, told MintPress News as he held back his tears while carrying Jewish books that were destroyed by Israeli airstrikes.

The Mikhail told MintPress that the Jewish community in Iran is vehemently anti-Zionist and have vowed their loyalty to their Iranian homeland against Israeli attacks.

Raw video footage and interviews with the synagogue director however show that the building was completely leveled, with religious materials, including Torah scrolls, buried beneath the rubble. Israel denies deliberately targeting the historic synagogue, with Israeli officials describing the damage as “collateral”.

The strike has been condemned not only by Iranian officials but also by members of Iran’s Jewish community who told MintPress that “Israel is an ominous Zionist regime”.

Representatives of the community have emphasized that the synagogue was a purely religious space, with no military function, underscoring the broader implications of the attack.

The destruction of the Rafi-Nia Synagogue highlights the often-overlooked reality of Iran’s Jewish population. Contrary to common perceptions, Iran is home to one of the largest Jewish communities in the Middle East outside of Israel, with more than 10,000 Jews and approximately 100 active synagogues across the country. These communities have maintained religious life and cultural traditions for generations.

Judaism is one of the main recognized religions by the Iranian government providing religious protection to this community.

For many, the attack raises troubling questions about the widening scope of the conflict.

Religious and cultural sites have historically been protected under international law, yet recent weeks have seen increasing reports of damage to UNESCO heritage sites across Iran, either directly or through nearby strikes.

The timing of the strike has also intensified outrage. Reports indicate that the attack occurred during a period of religious observance, amplifying concerns that places of worship are no longer being treated as protected spaces in the expanding war.

Beyond the immediate destruction, the loss of the synagogue represents a deeper cultural blow. Sites like the Rafi-Nia Synagogue are not only places of worship but also repositories of history, identity, and communal memory. Their destruction erases physical links to longstanding minority communities that have coexisted within Iran for centuries.

While Israel claims to be a “Jewish State”, this latest attack against an Iranian synagogue shows Israel’s actions are rooted in destruction, genocide and an attempt to sow chaos.

From independent Australian journalist Caitlin Johnstone:

Israel is already aggressively sabotaging the Trump administration’s two-week ceasefire with Iran by slaughtering huge numbers of civilians in Lebanon, a nation which is explicitly off-limits for any attack under the ceasefire conditions agreed to by Tehran.

The US and Israel are trying to claim that Lebanon is not part of the ceasefire agreement, but Pakistan, whom the US appointed to mediate the agreement, says this is false. The New York Times reports that the White House took part in Pakistan’s public messaging which explicitly included Lebanon in the ceasefire conditions, before changing its tune after Israel attacked.

Iran has reportedly responded to these violations by again halting traffic through the Strait of Hormuz.

This serves as yet another reminder that the world can have peace or it can have Israel — but it cannot have both. Israel is a genocidal apartheid state whose entire existence is premised upon a strategy of unceasing violence and abuse in the middle east. As long as that state continues to exist in its present iteration, peace will never be attainable.

Democrats in the House and Senate are finally moving on a War Powers Act to stop the US president from going to war with Iran, and I’d say better late than never but at this point that would barely even be true.

Democrats like Chuck Schumer and Chris Murphy are currently slamming the president not for his horrifying mass atrocities in Iran but for losing the Strait of Hormuz and failing to achieve objectives like completely disarming their conventional missile program.

As I have said here previously, it’s clear that the reason the Democratic Party failed to oppose Trump’s warmongering with Iran was because they supported it too.

The actual, official 2024 Democratic Party platform accused Trump of “fecklessness and weakness” for failing to go to war with Iran during his first term. Kamala Harris labeled Iran the #1 enemy of the United States. In their 2024 debate, Harris repeatedly slammed Trump for being too soft on America’s enemies and announced that she “will always give Israel the ability to defend itself, in particular as it relates to Iran and any threat that Iran and its proxies pose to Israel.”

I’ve seen a lot of people trying to argue that Trump’s depravity in Iran proves everyone should support Democrats, but it’s clear the Democratic Party is just the more polite-looking face on the same evil power structure.

The Grayzone’s Wyatt Reed has an article out about a freakish BBC article which cited an anonymous Iranian who allegedly told them he supports the US and Israel “hitting energy infrastructure, using an atomic bomb, or leveling Iran.” Following public outcry, the quote was removed and replaced with completely different words — initially without any editor’s note of any kind.

Reed documents how the BBC reporter behind the story, Ghoncheh Habibiazad, is a London-based Iranian monarchist with an extensive history of agitating for regime change war against her home country, including with the US government propaganda operation Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty.

Last month The Times ran an article titled “Some Iranians say one thing’s worse than bombs: no bombs”. Western powers are always aggressively pushing this self-evidently false claim that people in empire-targeted countries want bombs dropped on them, in much the same way slavery proponents argued that Africans were happiest as slaves because God made it their nature to serve.

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: it’s impossible to have enough disdain for the western press.

😂 Dude I literally just commented on two of your comments in the same thread. That makes me a stalker? And you have proven my point. You are choosing to believe and regurgitate CIA propaganda that has manufactured consent for these war crimes.

Iran is not an authoritarian theocracy that tramples on the rights of women. You know who is? Saudi Arabia, a US ally (and vassal state), where women can't vote or drive cars. You don't see us bombing and regime changing them. You know why? Because they do what the US says and we profit off of their oil. Iranian women can vote and Iran has a much higher percentage of women in higher education/who have graduated with PhDs than the US. Iran even has a hugely larger literacy rate among its population than the US.

The official death toll from the supposed tens of thousands of "peaceful protesters" killed by the Iranian government is reported as around 3,500. Israel even admitted that these were largely Kurdish separatists and other violent pro-West agitators in Iran that were being incited, armed, and organized by the CIA and the Mossad (who infiltrated and operated with the help of smuggled Starlink terminals--the only reason the riots ended was because Iran blacked out their internet to stop CIA/Mossad communications with their organizers outside Iran). These rioters were fucking burning down schools and mosques. Conveniently, these incited riots happened right before USreal started committing war crimes against Iran, and the whole of Western mainstream media ran with it, some saying 7,000 "peaceful protesters" killed, some saying 10,000, some saying 30,000, some even saying 80,000. These claims were in the service of manufacturing consent among the public of Western nations to tolerate and/or support these aggressions against the sovereign nation of Iran.

This is all besides the point, though. Regardless of what happens in other countries or whether or not their governments are oppressive or "democratic" or WHATEVER, IT IS WRONG FOR THE US OR ANY OTHER COUNTRY TO INTERFERE IN THE GOVERNMENT OF ANY OTHER COUNTRY TO DEPOSE THEIR LEADERS AND STEAL THEIR RESOURCES. PERIOD.

[-] voaw@lemmy.world 11 points 6 days ago

The thing with people like you is you’re informed solely by Western imperial war propaganda, which has whole agencies devoted to smearing those who pose a threat to US hegemony. The reality is this is a world made up of sovereign nations who have been largely threatened, sanctioned, and attacked by the US empire since its inception, especially those who are communist or who have been communist in the past.

[-] voaw@lemmy.world 13 points 6 days ago

USrael is bombing schools, hospitals, residential buildings, water processing plants, orphanages, ambulances, and journalists in Iran, Gaza, the West Bank, and Lebanon. Iran is targeting mega corporations, US bases, IsraHell, military commanders, and politicians AND they are making a ceasefire contingent on ending the genocide in Gaza. I think it’s safe to say Iran are the good guys here. If you believe they slaughtered 80,000 protesters in 48 hours, you’re drinking the CIA koolaid, friend.
