Looks like this was posted 2 years ago. No clue why its reappearing in feed. Appeared in mine too.

Yeah, I would prefer if this place just pre-emptively defederates Threads. Since while unlikely to be able to really view lemmy posts properly, I still rather it not be able to be seen at all. I dont want them to embrace extend extinguish and so need to pre-emptively prevent that.

Just got this email. Just after midnight on the 18th did the fire alarm go off 3 times in an hour. Glad to see them actually send this out, its not often Ponderosa gets deliberate false alarms. Been there for 2 years and its typically rare (usually you can atleast smell smoke meaning someone burnt something bad).

Hey, so, I'm trying to subscribe to a few communities from lemmy.ca such as !alberta@lemmy.ca and !calgary@lemmy.ca. https://lemmy.blahaj.zone/c/canada@lemmy.ca works and loads properly so I was able to subscribe, but these two smaller ones just give an error 404: couldnt_find_community. I can confirm these do exist since going to the lemmy.ca version it loads properly.

I know how fediverse stuff works is that it only caches communities that a member of the community is a part of, same with other instances. So in this case, Im not sure how to get our instance to fetch the data from these smaller communities. It fetches from the larger !canada@lemmy.ca, just not the smaller ones. Is there a way to subscribe to it so that I can see the communities load properly? Not sure what exactly to do here.

cross-posted from lemmy.blahaj.zone/u/cosplay: https://lemmy.blahaj.zone/post/121209

Thought id share a WIP of my current cosplay project! I finished last month the Stringbean staff for my cosplay, and it was the most intensive prop I’ve ever worked on.

First, someone already made the stl of Stringbean, and was selling the file online so I purchased myself it. (Here it is so others can also find it. Big thanks to the person for making this public: https://cults3d.com/en/3d-model/game/owl-house-luz-stringbean-staff-cosplay-palisman-3d-print-model)

But, made modifications with both the pole I had being larger and a slight consistency error with the show I noticed (how Stringbean attaches to the pole). So, went into blender and modified it. After that, could 3D print it on my Ender 5 Pro, where then refinement began.

Tons of spray painting, until eventually I reached the state I was happy with. I resin-casted the orb, took several days since first time I ever did resin-casting. Then had some leftover resin so I casted the eyes to create more of a shine. Put it all together, and bam! And it turned out incredible.

From one side:

The other:

Overall, so proud, it was my first time doing props to this degree, and taught a ton. Now for the rest of the cosplay.

This is one of the biggest lemmy communities in general, its actually a bit shocking

Im not counting on reddit to make substantive changes. Plus, it is kinda nice here, more calm, better vibes for other stuff

Yeah I think avoiding downvoting I prefer. Im not sure how it works entirely, but the fact that outside people can't just come here and downvote is actually very appreciated. I know for smaller hobby-type posts, in places like Reddit, seeing downvotes can be very demoralizing for continuing with the hobby, so not having that risk is kinda nice. What would be useful is if Lemmy had some way to allow communities to set if downvotes are allowed or not, but I dont think it does. I rather until Lemmy provides that feature, for this server to not allow downvotes overall.

To help get the waters started here, since it's terrifying to be the first one to post in a new community, I'll kick it off!

From 2021, this was one of the first cosplays I ever did, Rosalina. Decided to learn how to sew a dress for this, as well as some prop work. It was incredibly tough, but was incredible to pull of. It was also the first cosplay I was able to do after coming out at my university. So, while I've done more since then, this one still means a ton to me.

Would love to go back to it now and get a proper photo done sometime. This was the best photo I got of it.

Hey! So, I noticed that there is yet to be any community I could find on Lemmy for cosplays, to show off, share tips, and such, so I decided to create this one!

Wanted to create a community where people of all skills can share the cosplays they have put together. Doesn't matter if it took a day or months, cosplay should be celebrated and encouraged! Personally, I am still fairly new to cosplay. My experience is still fairly fresh, doing it for only a few years. But in that time, I've seen so many supportive people at cons that have kept encouraging me to continue, and so I want this place to be like that too. Where someone new to cosplay can get encouragement to keep going, and also where someone who's been doing it for a long time can learn brand new tricks!

As for posting, please make sure to name the character you are doing in the title. As well, keep all cosplays to ones that you have done. Don't share other people's cosplays. This all is subject to change, I am new to moderating so not sure what all may occur. If the rules are to change drastically, Ill be certain to consult with the community.
