It's probably just familiarity bias, but I really like the classic 3D design elements of the '90s desktops. I was a big fan of the Windows classic shell, NeXTSTEP and Openbox UIs. And even though I think both GNOME and KDE look fantastic today, I would still happily use a CDE-style UI if I could do so consistently.

If it were me and there was no way to have an additional drop installed from the exterior, I would still consider running a single cable through the living space to your desired location, as discreetly as possible.

It's difficult to suggest exactly how to do so without pics or a floorplan, but I would try to match the wall or trim color and keep the cable tucked close to the floor and/or ceiling throughout the run.

Once in place, the cable will quickly disappear into your surroundings and you'll be left with rock solid reliable networking.

Yep, this is how we've kept ours for over 20 years. Even if you don't use the command line, most graphical file browsers will search through text files without issue.

While I'm a big fan of Vim, it's definitely not for everyone.

I spend about half of my writing time in VSCodium, which is a community-based release of Microsoft's open source VS Code editor. There are several markdown, grammar, and focus-oriented plugins for the platform, and you can pretty much shape it into whatever kind of editor you want.

I use VSCodium for the vast majority of my personal notes, technical writing, and project documentation (nearly all of which are written in markdown format).

  • Rpm-ostree: more robust apply-live updates; local rpm package upgrades without needing to remove previous versions first
  • Thunderbird/K-9 Mail: continued work on modernizing the UI and features of both desktop and mobile versions
  • GNOME: smoother animations and increased performance for low-end GPUs and IGPs (triple buffering implementation, etc.)
  • Firefox Mobile: site isolation

Some folks make coffee their religion (and there's nothing wrong with that). I grind a Mason jar's worth of Costco Espresso beans at a time, using a cheap KitchenAid grinder. Dump a heaping, hard-scooped 1/3 cup of it into a Bodum French press. Florishly fill with boiling water to just above the metal ring. Steep for 10 minutes, then serve. I don't stir it, or wait for it to bloom before filling to the top. Turns out great every time.

I havent't read the article yet, but I hope they fixed the subpar rendering for general use, because Bierstadt looked terrible in general desktop apps. In fact, none of the proposed typefaces rendered well under native Windows ClearType.

Unfortunately, I can't make that call from the one pic, but I would be surprised if that ratio of holes resulted in a hollowed beam. Termites, sure, but not woodworm.

Ultimately, if you won't sleep well with the old wood in place, then there's your answer.

Unfortunately, no. The lemmy.ca site admins did offer my previous theme as a native option in your profile settings, however the stylesheets must be updated so frequently due to Lemmy's early state of development that it was becoming impractical to do this reliably.

Thanks, I assumed it was official due to being made by dessalines. If it's just one of many side projects then I understand the separation.

I anticipate multiple waves to come over the next few years, as Reddit implements common strategies ahead of, or after, its IPO; including:

  1. Removing old reddit from the platform
  2. Forcing users to provide a phone number for account verification, ending all anonymity among alts
  3. Blocking anonymous browsing for all but the most mainstream subs or perhaps just r/popular

It's all about the slow boil.
