Love these ideas! Might make a V2!

The Plex deep links will automatically resume. TV shows are tricky. For that, I use the Plex integration of Home Assistant to play a random episode. It's supposed to be super powerful, but I haven't got it to work reliably yet (which is why I didn't focus on TV Shows in the blog post).

service: media_player.play_media
data:
  media_content_type: EPISODE
  media_content_id: |-
    {
      "library_name" : "TV shows",
      "show_name": "SHOW NAME HERE",
      "shuffle": 1,
      "maxresults": 1
    }
  enqueue: replace
target:
  entity_id: media_player.plex_plex_for_apple_tv_apple_tv

It's definitely level. Guess it's the perspective + the fact that it's a curved TV.

Thank you for the nice message! I don't have any plans to sell these though. Have enough on my hands with 2 kids ;)

You can buy pre-made readers from Adenno: https://adonno.com/tagreader/ He uses the smaller NFC reader that I want to use in the future.

Hadn't considered using NFC tags to have my kids control other things in the house. Interesting idea!

Before migrating to Lemmy, I decided to request a copy of the data Reddit has on me.

To my surprise, the export includes a file ip_logs.csv with a list of all IP addresses that I used to connect to Reddit for the last 3-4 months!! That seems quite unnecessary.

These posts are really useful to get a grasp of ActivityPub (if you have a programming background): https://rknight.me/building-an-activitypub-server/ https://blog.joinmastodon.org/2018/06/how-to-implement-a-basic-activitypub-server/

And of course the official spec (although its less useful): https://www.w3.org/TR/activitypub/

I think Reddit's CEO is making a fool out of himself by how he's managing this situation. I think however that the solution is very simple and straightforward.

Let's start: I can understand that Reddit has costs to operate the platform. I also get that they don't want big companies to abuse the API to train ML models and profit of it. Fair game!

But why not offer a generous free tier for regular users? Say, every user gets 500 free API calls per day. Regular users stay within the free tier, while big companies can't do anything meaningful with only 500 calls per day (so they end up paying money).

Seems pretty straightforward to me. Everyone happy! Many other companies offer generous free-tiers for exactly this reason. Am I missing something?

I like to think that fries are our national pride, but foreigners call them French fries, and are confused when you explain they're actually from Belgium.

So, what is our national pride?

Not a big waffle guy myself, so I guess chocolate then?

Hi everyone,

I have a Strelitzia Nicolai which isn't doing too well. Most of the leaves are turning yellow/brown, some of them having spots. This happened last year as well. After a while, I cut them off, and they eventually regrow.

The plant is on a hydroculture with a water meter.

I don't think its due to overwatering. Once the meter indicates zero, I wait 4 days before refilling to the "optimal" level on the meter.

I also don't think it's because of a lack of sunlight. The plant stands in our "veranda" (sorry for the Dutch term, no good English term seems to exist). Plenty of sunlight. In the winter, the temperature never drops below 16. In the summer it almost never drops below 20.

The plant receives a fertilizer for hydroculture plants roughly every 6 months. Last time was about 2 months ago.

Any thoughts on what could be going on? I've had this plant for 4 years, and only been struggling with it the last 2.

Hi everyone!

I currently have a Neato D7 with a broken brush motor. It's 3 years old, so no more warranty.

Given that Neato is shutting down, I want to buy a new vacuum altogether.

Here's my wishlist:

  • Home Assistant integration (duh)
  • Vacuum + mopping
  • Local control would be cherry on top
  • LIDAR navigation (we run it mostly during the night)
  • Easy to service & reliable (should be easy to service the robot and buy replacement parts)

Any suggestions / recommendations?

From my experience, the electricity consumption of e-bikes is low. We have a Babboe cargo bike and we drive 5km every day. I measure the electricity consumption of the charger, and it comes down to 0.5-1kWh per month. I assume regular e-bikes have an even lower consumption.

Check the updated post. It's running on a dedicated server hosted by Hetzner. Specs are high-end: "AMD EPYC 7502P 32 Cores “Rome” CPU and 128GB RAM."
