There is 1 server running the instance you are on. One. For tens of thousands of people. Compare that to millions of servers that the biggest social sites use.

It's been pretty seamless for me. I put the Connect for Lemmy icon in place of RIF, so habitually open it instead. I'm considering contributing to Jeboa now (i do android dev), it's not a very good app but a lot of people are using it... kind of a bad first experience.

Yep, I'm excited too. Lemmy also has a goal of intentionally avoiding addiction, which I'm down with

I say don't let them crawl. I'd rather the server and bandwidth costs go to real people rather than bots

I just checked /r/all. It's all clickbait. All tired memes, the only news is whatever is plastered on every news site anyway. Reddit was awesome when you were the first person to hear about any news. I remember telling my parents stuff, then they'd hear about it 3 days later and be in awe because i already knew so much about it. The news sites have adapted though, reddit isn't the first source of information anymore. Now its just a social site to waste time on, and it's even bad at that

I've always followed the old reddiquette: if the comment is contributing to the discussion, upvote it. Even if you disagree with it. Reddiquette used to be a big part of reddit, but stopped maybe 10 years ago

And all I have to say is.. enjoy it while it lasts. Once all the users come, so do all the trolls

Logged in or just out? Others have said logged out works but not in.

Or just delete it and stay here a while 😀

I also pay for premium, and tbh what I get out of it is worth it. I pay for 1 streaming site at a time, I pay fast mail for email. I'm not hesitant to pay for something as long as I get value out of it

Youtube is much harder to migrate from. It has a loooot of data. Where else can I upgrade 60 minutes of 4k gopro footage for free?

I dunno, I'm 40 and have definitely bought things because of ads. Highly targeted ones on Instagram have introduced me to a lot of cycling gear I wouldn't have otherwise known about. It seems like most of the youtube ads are pretty bad though

I was an early user of reddit, and it had a lot of the same problems this place had. There were no "smaller subreddits", everything was small. But the quality of content was good, so I stuck around. It really takes a lot of effort to build a community, it doesn't come for free. I hope you stick around and help 😀

I cant even walk right now it hurts so bad, and my core/hamstrings are so tight. So here's a photo of our group ride meet up point while i rest.

BTW, is there an alternative to /r/velo?
