I get that! And it's not really about creating enemies. More of a digital utopia where we see what's the better option

Especially when they promote and use it out of "moral motivation" to "fight against twitter/big tech". You're still using a platform owned by one company. They're not really decentralized. There's nothing stopping them to go down the same path twitter did. They're funded by some questionable investors... Or, to quote something I recently read: "BlueSky is decentralized in the same way Total Energies is a green company."

Fight big tech, yes, but know which platforms to use. And to counter all "but Mastodon etc. are boring": the more people making the shift to the fediverse, the less boring it gets.

Edit to add: "shame" might be a heavy choice of words, but I don't know another term haha (English not a first language and all that)

I was an hour ago, but now I'm back at my desk scrolling through Lemmy and Mastodon while following cycling (Volta ao Algarve) on my laptop. Social media manager sure is one hell of a job. I think I'll get another coffee

there's a certain orange guy overseas doing things that might make this "Army of Europe" a necessity. and why not? I'm pro EU. when we work together on all levels, we can be a strong force. and that includes military.

l'union fait la force!

Politics and social media both have a major impact on your life. Imo it's impossible to disconnect (pun intended) them from each other. Social media is basically the 21st century version of the town square. People talk about politics, that's just how it is

This is hell. This is hell. Never, ever, ever let it happen in Belgium. For the love of any god that gives enough of a fuck to listen, care about politics. Care about politics before they decide they don’t care about you.

I try! It's a hard battle, sometimes, because even here right-wing nutjobs are getting more and more normalised. We can only hope that they see the situation in the US and realise they don't want this kind of shitshow. On the other hand... even here some of those nutjobs are celebrating Donny and Elmo. That's very scary.

Has it all been futile? Have I wasted ten years fighting the same fascists my grandfather fought in WW2?

It's not! I really believe it hasn't been futile! Keep on fighting! I know it's very demanding, but never underestimate the power of the masses. I support you, even if I can only raise my voice online. And here in Belgium, I'm fighting for sure to evade the same situation.

and there’s no leverage in government to stop them.

Do you think government will do anything at all in the coming weeks, months, years? I can't wrap my head around the situation at all. How does anyone with a slight bit of brains and a small grasp of history just accept this? It's so dystopian...

As an outsider (I live in Belgium) it feels very weird and dystopian to see everything happening in American politics with Trump and Musk.

On one side, it's very interesting and almost entertaining; on the other side, it's scary. I can't imagine what it must be like to live in the USA.

Americans, how do you cope? What's your take on the situation?

So, he really is a dictator now, huh? He wasn't joking? 'Murica! Land of the free... I guess?

As the title says! I have a fixie and after a period of riding brakeless, it's time to install a front brake again. Mainly because I use it for endurance/audax as well and I'm not doing that brakeless. I don't have a death wish yet... For balance, looks and grip, I'm installing a lever on either side (Tektro RL520, nothing too fancy shmancy). I have flared drop bars, and I'm figuring out how to properly mount these. Anybody has some tips? Thanks!
