I got fascinated by the Supreme Court and that led me to a lot of political and law podcasts. I am notably not a lawyer so I don’t know why I’m doing so many.
5-4 ALAB (if they ever post) pod save America pod save the world sawbones

Oooh! I'll have to do that!
How you liking Diablo 4? Will I like it if I liked D3?
Yeah the problem with pioneers is that everyone copies them. Even still, I found Rashomon engaging on its own merits. It even felt kind of like a silent film at times despite all the dialogue and music--probably because of how it studied its faces. Not entirely sure my wife did, but she doesn't nerd out like me.
Seven Samurai and The Hidden Fortress are on my list for next to watch. I know Hidden Fortress influenced Star wars, so I'm excited for how many things feel old hat.
Listening to the four accountings in Rashomon made me feel like a reporter. There were convergences and divergences, but clearly they were responding to a real event. There's a story going on, and yet everyone is also all liars. I loved it.
Man, it's been years since I've read this book! Thank you for adding these quotes. I'm particularly struck by "Awe is an act of insight. . . . wisdom is fostered by awe." Many of the problems I see on the Twitterverse is a distinct lack of awe in the users. The Heschel quote makes me wonder if that is why there's a lot of unwisdom on the internet.
Grateful to see this post. Dogmas are passed down, which requires individual wrestling in a community. One of the realities of all faiths is they have some form of revelation, and Heschel himself has some great things to say about doctrines of revelation. Revelation changes how we solve problems as a community, the end result being dogmatics.
Little stressed out. Pregnant wife just tested positive for COVID, I'm in the clear so far and my daughter seems to be, too. Gotta head to the store to get some more tests though, but we're pretty strapped for cash until tomorrow. I've been in the dumps lately but actually today I'm feeling pretty good all things considered. Weird how that goes!
Others have already talked about the grammatical rules a bit. I want to offer a “rule of thumb” that really helped me in my thesis writing:
Anytime you’re going to use “this,” especially at the start of a new sentence, rephrase what you’re saying.
For example:
My stomach is rumbling. This means I am hungry. My stomach is rumbling. Gastro-intestinal sounds mean I am hungry.
It’s a bad example, but it really does help.
It really is remarkable how two giants of the industry lost so much so quickly.
I’m hoping Bluesky does join the fediverse just so I don’t have to jump between apps. Lemmy has been great, but people don’t comment as much. I miss that
