my problem is people who chastise others over not acting sooner.

All they said was that they wish people had listened. Thats it. The only one who's mentioned action is you.

Musk is a fascist, but did ANYONE believe he was capable of doing the things he’s doing now, then?

Yes, because he's always been a billionaire with no morals, he's always treated people like shit and he's always put money ahead of everything, even his own family members. Someone who can do those things is capable of anything.

if anyone says yes, they’re lying.

lol.

If they are genuinely stating months as a realistic timeframe then they either know nothing or are fully aware and this is a deliberate killshot.

They're using Nextcloud, which is fine, but be aware this means that the drive wont be e2ee. You might want to use it together with Cryptomator which is made by a German company.

Makes sense, thanks.

I'm going to take a wide definition of the word 'art' here and apply it to all artistic methods.

Its not art. Art, almost by definition, partly reflects an emotional state the artist was in when creating the work. AI merely apes the output, not the necessary emotional connection. Its like the shitty music that used to play in lifts (elevators) in that it uses the output but is utterly soulless.

Its ethically way worse than piracy. If you pirate (for example) an ebook or music its more than likely because you want to escape DRM or some other type of controlling software designed to prevent you from actually having control over what you would otherwise have bought. LLM's steal not just that but the whole creative process. Its more than pirating a movie or track or book, its more akin to stealing the thought process from an artists mind and trying to replicate the process automatically.

It is, to me, just another example of making the whole of our international artistic culture a bland homogenized cesspit of crapness. Its capitalism's best way to profit from art as there's no one to pay. But we end of with ever decreasing quality. AI based art becomes like humanity in the matrix - used then liquidised to feed the next iteration.

And then there's also the environmental impact. The last thing the word needs right now is something else gobbling resources - especially when the end result is utter shit.

I promise this is genuine curiosity, not snark, but what's the benefit/point to tracking ones pet?

[-] leraje 34 points 4 days ago

I was part of that migration and I won't be as it looks like Digg is going to be pre-launch enshittified via AI slop.

They'll vote Reform.

[-] leraje 3 points 4 days ago

I'm not sure that I was, which is even more depressing to realise.

[-] leraje 21 points 4 days ago

Not to worry, Rachel Reeves fantastic plan to decimate the welfare state will take care of this issue - and as an added bonus vastly inflate the value of funeral businesses across the country! Win-win!

I'd recommend a Kobo Clara. They do do a colour variant but the next part of my recommendation might not be able to cope with it, I don't know.

That next part is KOReader - you can install it 'over the top' of the standard Clara software so it becomes the working environment. Its got so many pluses I don't have time to list them all but it plays nice with Calibre, you can SSH to it, FTP to it, even access it from some cloud services. I can't say if it supports colour or not though as I don't use a colour Clara.

Transferring your current collection is probably a non-starter due to the recent limitations Amazon have put on downloading files. Getting new ebooks is up to you, there's loads of both legal and not so legal places to source books from, depending on how you feel about DRM.

In terms of transferring books - as well as the ways I mentioned above it also supports OPDS and of course standard USB cabled transfers too.

I'll miss the ability to buy using cash-bought gift vouchers as that seems the only straightforward way to preserve privacy.

I guess I might be the only person on the face of the planet dependent on PhotoGIMP so this might be useful for no-one but just on the offchance...

After updating Gimp to 3 and updating photogimp too, it was for me totally and utterly broken. I don't know enough to say why, but it was. It loaded the new splash screen but when fully loaded the whole interface was the standard Gimp one and all interface tools, layouts etc were also (as far as I could tell) standard Gimp. I searched for answers but couldn't find any. Maybe this is a 'me' issue or maybe the updates are too new or maybe photogimp doesn't have enough of a userbase to notice.

So, I've ended up rolling back to gimp 2.10 and the 2020.1 version of photogimp. However, this is not a straightforward process. Here's what I had to do (assuming flatpak).

Remove all photogimp bits and pieces from $HOME/.var, $HOME/.local and most especially $HOME/.config

DO NOT uninstall Gimp itself.

Then revert gimp 3.02 to 2.10 like so:

First you need the commit id of previous versions of Gimp.

flatpak remote-info --log flathub org.gimp.GIMP

For 2.10 its 83b335255cc239e223ada842f99107d1d6ce51b511a8ae2a278005c2e2809242

So this is technically an update even though we're reverting not upgrading, so Gimp itself still needs to be installed. Might need to sudo the next command.

flatpak update --commit=83b335255cc239e223ada842f99107d1d6ce51b511a8ae2a278005c2e2809242 org.gimp.GIMP

Let it do its thing. When its ready, you can (optionally but I did) tell flatpak to ignore updates like so:

flatpak mask org.gimp.GIMP

When that's all done, open and run gimp and you should now have 2.10

Close Gimp.

Now download photogimp 2022.1 from the releases page, then extract the relevant files into $HOME/.var and $HOME/.local respectively.

Double check $HOME/.config/GIMP is definitely gone.

Open Gimp again and you should have photogimp back to its pre-gimp3 self.

There’s a reason that cookies and privacy policies (in the EU at least) have become such an online nuisance. These assurances of your safety and privacy are nothing more than a pretext to get consent. Your “anonymised” data is sold to an infinite regress of third parties, analysed, correlated and de-anonymised again. Any smart device you use, your browsing habits, banking transactions, your GPS position are all used to deduce fine grain information about you. Then weaponised against you for as much profit as possible.

Been awhile since I posted an update to GOS activities and whilst I'm not kidding myself that people hang on our every word or move, its a bit remiss of me/us.

So, first off, we have a new US Order, taking the total in America to three now. The new Order is called Free Society Satanists: GOS Resurgens. We don't have any rules about what an Order calls itself as we're not a big monolithic bureaucracy like some Satanist groups I can think of so they decided to use a kind of mashup of old and new. Internally we refer to them as FSS/GOSR as its less to type! They cover the Atlanta and general South area.

Next up, myself and my Swedish comrade Chantelouve of our Swedish Order Satanistiska samfundet did the first of our 2 hour shows (Contra Odium for Satan Not Hatin') for Moshville Radio on Jan 2nd. Went well, got good numbers apparently. If you want to treat your ears to some non-problematic metal and alt music, DJ'd by one person who knows what they're doing (Chantelouve) and one person who still hasn't learnt to talk directly into the mic yet (me) you can listen to the show on Mixcloud. From now on we have a regular date/time of 17:00-19:00 (UK time) on the first Thursday of every month broadcast live on Moshville Radio and then uploaded to their Mixcloud page the following day.

Satan Not Hatin' now has over 370 opt-in participants including bands, solo artists, record labels, promoters, venues and festivals, merch designers/sellers, zine writers and collectives.

Our UK Order has been asked to represent the Satan Not Hatin' campaign at Depravation Fest '25 a UK music festival. We'll be there to make sure people who might be part of marginalised communities feel welcomed and safe.

Our Seattle Order, House of Heretics completed the collection stage of their campaign to help their unhoused neighbours and have already been handing out tents, sleeping bags, toothbrushes, clean kits, warm socks etc amongst their community and our Pittsburgh Order GOS: Steel City are doing the same with their Baphomet Bags campaign.

GOSPod, our UK Orders podcast, have found a couple of our episodes removed by YouTube because we used phrases that their algorithms are unable to process. For example, we did an episode about the Satanic Panic/Satanic Conspiracies and at one point one of us mentioned old conspiracies getting a new lease of life via Covid denialism and we used the word 'antivaxxer' which was enough to get the episode taken down. Ridiculous. So anyway, we made the decision to not upload any episodes to YT that might get struck off. But we will be uploading all of them to our PeerTube channel where saner heads prevail.

Forgive the self-promotion post but I thought this would be relevant! cross-posted from: https://lemmy.blahaj.zone/post/19534509

I was interviewed on Moshville Radio yesterday (you can hear the show on their Mixcloud archive) and we (Moshville and GOS) made the announcement that our Satan Not Hatin' campaign will be launching a monthly two hour radio show co-hosted by myself and my friend and colleague from the campaign DoomMetalJacket of Satanistiska samfundet (GOS Sweden).

We'll be playing the music of our participating bands and artists (nearly 300 of them now), talking about news and information to do with the campaign and hopefully getting some of the bands/artists on to talk about their music and what participating in a campaign like ours means to them.

Moshville Radio broadcasts live across the UK, EU and USA and archives can be found on their Mixcloud page.

Contra Odium, Various Artists, 2024 (satannothatin.bandcamp.com)
submitted 5 months ago by leraje to c/metal@lemmy.world

Forgive me pushing my own stuff here. As some of you know I'm a member of an atheistic Satanic organisation. We are currently running a campaign against the incursion of the far right and hate into various alt music scenes, including metal, called Satan Not Hatin'.

Today we have released a compilation album on Bandcamp called Contra Odium ("Against Hate") featuring the music of thirteen of the Satan Not Hatin' participants. They're all metal bands (plus a couple of punks) on the album and its a real mix of subgenres - Black Metal, Doom, Post, Gothic, Sludge.

Proceeds from the album will be divided amongst participating Orders (UK, Sweden, Pittsburgh and Seattle) and in turn passed on in full to charities local to each Order:

  • GOS UK: The Sophie Lancaster Foundation and Hope Not Hate
  • House of Heretics (Seattle): The Lavender Rights Project
  • Satanistiska samfundet (GOS Sweden): Transammans
  • GOS: Steel City (Pittsburgh): Greater Pittsburgh Arts Council

Melania Trump made an extraordinary declaration in an eagerly awaited memoir to be published a month from election day: she is a passionate supporter of a woman’s right to control her own body – including the right to abortion.

“It is imperative to guarantee that women have autonomy in deciding their preference of having children, based on their own convictions, free from any intervention or pressure from the government,” the Republican nominee’s wife writes, amid a campaign in which Donald Trump’s threats to women’s reproductive rights have played a central role.

“Why should anyone other than the woman herself have the power to determine what she does with her own body? A woman’s fundamental right of individual liberty, to her own life, grants her the authority to terminate her pregnancy if she wishes.

“Restricting a woman’s right to choose whether to terminate an unwanted pregnancy is the same as denying her control over her own body. I have carried this belief with me throughout my entire adult life.”

An interesting article in The Independent claims the UK is now officially in its first ever 'Age of Atheism' as there are now more atheists than theists in the UK.

Clearly great news but makes it even more of a mystery why we still have 26 christian bishops appointed to law making positions in the House of Lords, why swearing on the bible is still a thing, why kids are still legally obliged to be force fed christian content in schools and why christian nationalists are on the rise amongst Tory MP's.

We won't stop until its all gone.
