Adoptable apps: Games edition 🎲

KDE makes a long list of games, and we will be adding some to the list of adoptable apps over the next few days.

https://kde.org/fundraisers/yearend2024/#adopt

Here are the first four:

"HOWTO help a KDE Goal" part 1: "We care about your Input"

"We care about your Input" plans to increase the number of supported input devices for Plasma and KDE apps. The aim is to offer the possibility to use assistive devices, gaming controllers of all kinds, and devices for specialised tasks.

You can help by funding developers with their research,

https://kde.org/fundraisers/yearend2024/

and by joining the team, giving feedback, and assisting with the development.

ISO Image Writer, Partition Manager, SkanPage and System Monitor added to the list of adoptable apps.

If using the command line to burn disk images makes you nervous, ISO Image Writer is your friend!

Likewise, creating and modifying partitions can be scary, so why not use KDE's friendly Partition Manager?

€30K reached🎉! Thank you generous donors!

We are now on our way towards our 1st reach goal. To celebrate, we have added 4 more apps to our list of adoptable apps.

Discover helps you install, remove and update your software; KolourPaint is an easy to use design program; with KRFB, you can share your desktop over a network; and #GCompris is the wildly popular educational suite with tons of fun activities for kids.

@homesweethomeMrL

It's an oldish HP Spectre with a foldable touchscreen from 2018.

Actually works very well.

@merthyr1831

We also used it in an animation - but, again, only in the context of the campaign.

[-] kde@floss.social 1 points 2 years ago

@merthyr1831 @kde@lemmy.kde.social
We asked a designer to make a logo we could use for the Plasma 6 _CAMPAIGN_, not for Plasma 6 itself.

We asked for something that would remind people of the Plasma logo (a folded piece of paper with three dots), but that also looked like a 6. This what they came up with.

So no, not the new Plasma logo.

Sorry.

@Franzia

> Wait KDE needs more money?

Yes. We need money to pay for personnel salaries, our yearly
Akademy event, travel for community members to sprints and other events, the maintenance and rent of our tech infrastructure, rent for our Office, taxes and insurance, and other stuff.

KDE's software is always evolving and being worked on. We need money to keep things moving, otherwise the KDE project and most of the software projects that rely on it would die.

The same principles can be applied to jumping from one desktop environment to another, for example, from #Plasma to #Gnome...

Neon will have it already. Arch is usually fast, too, as is openSUSE Tumbleweed. Beyond that, not sure. Sorry.
