Don't forget the old textile companies that were threatened by hemp as well

I don't think we can build anything better than the state of the art simulator that President Elon already favours.

That was a much more philosophical analysis than I expected, but then it is the New Yorker.

There is something to be said about the fact that by the Golden Rule, we should only categorically avoid having children if we would rather have never been born (and while that's a popular meme, I doubt people who remain alive actually believe that).

I think a surefire way to help with this would be to have a rule that any instance that becomes the largest one on Lemmy should lock itself instantly. That way, we'll only surpass the current max number of users on a single instance until it's completely spread out

I discovered this hidden gem quite by accident. I like to take edibles and progressively watch weirder stuff as time passes, to align with the intensity of the high. The Beekeeper was supposed to be the first watch, a simple run of the mill action thriller.

Then the uncanny valley started. Not specifically in a visual sense, but the pacing of the cuts, and the dialogue. There is something very slightly off no matter where you look, but that clashes with what you expect from a Jason Statham movie in just the right way.

There is also so much left unexplained and unexplored in terms of the plot that it feels exactly like when you're high and everything feels like it's going out of its way to be undecipherable.

All of this combines with the honestly decent action and cameos by Josh Hutcherson and Jeremy Irons (who I think is trying to do a Southern accent, but he hasn't gotten back to me) to make for quite a unique experience for stoners and good-bad movies alike.

Have you seen the movie? What did you think about it?

Did you guys see this? What do you think about Kendrick popping up on the Carti album?

Looks like that community needs reviving

The standard issue one is Morpheus, and the orange is his younger sister (from a different litter) Avocado Toast. Together they are the international pop duo Morphy and Toasty (don't have anything sillier than that, though I will try to use any that get suggested).

I was looking around, and realised we don't have a single functioning equivalent to r/PhotoshopBattles. On a quick search:

We should revive the lemm.ee instance, but imo there is merit to starting afresh with a name that isn't tied to a proprietary closed-source piece of software, like image edits or editbattles

If there's anyone who's interested, please take it up. I don't mind being a mod, but I can't be the main (let's be real, sole) contributor right now. I've got my hands full with !fakealbumcover@lemm.ee, and that's just putting text on images, not even close to realistic edits like this demands.

I foresee a follow up album called PAY YOU FUCK ME

All three posts are still up though, and the usernames of the posters are visible as well.

I know it's bad, but I don't think they'd openly admit that it was because of Luigi, even if it did happen. They're too smart for that, given how vaguely they've been phrasing their new rules and enforcement policies.

I was right there as well. I saw creators I trust putting out stuff talking about the state of social media today (Technology Connections on YouTube in particular) and that was around when I started diving back into bluesky, then after a little more reading around, mastodon and lemmy. Never looked back after that.

I can't shake the feeling of it being a tie, but I like the aesthetic overall.

I think decades of minimalist, 'intuitive' interfaces that abstract what's going on in the background have made us too lazy to go beyond the bare minimum to switch platforms in general.

A common criticism I saw of the fediverse was the fact that you have to decide on an instance. As if any significant part of your life doesn't require a certain amount of research before making a decision. We all just buy the car that the dealership tells us to buy, of course.
