If you would read the book, they explain the point you are trying to make in the first couple of pages.

You have your opinion of how stuff should be done. But that doesnt mean everyone else needs to do it your way. Thats how we got into this mess.

Also very good analogy in the book: if you vote or not is your decision, plain and simple. But voting takes a couple minutes on average. If you want change, you can hang up a poster or print some flyers or take a megaphone, depending on what you‘re comfortable with.

I come from a country where people used to be put in gas chambers because the responsibility didnt reach far enough down and right now, that same country is going that exact route again.

Thank you very much for reaponding! Awesome to read about your efforts and mobian as an OS. How would you describe the daily driveability (on its own and compared to postmarketos)?

If I‘m not completely mistaken, the chip is the same as on my oneplus6. I run postmarketOS/phosh but camera is dead for now. I dont have enough insight to grasp if its just a legal issue or more. I feel like the two projects are quite similar but the differences are hard to grasp really. Whats your background and do you have experience with postmarketos? How do you experience mobians installation and documentation?

Have a good one.

Great way to rid yourself of responsibility. Sadly, nothing ever got achieved by being smart. Doing things is what is necessary.

Therefore yes, billionaires must go, of course. But they wont go until we take action. So my point still stands. Read the book.

Plex is pretty awesome, ngl. I always wanted to try jellyfin since paywall and all but since most people wont donate to open source to save their own lives, I really cant blame them.

That hits home like a cruise missile. Ouch.

Whatever idea you have to phones, you‘re wrong. They can easily make 5 plus years if you treat them right. The more problematic part is daily use and battery degradation/repair.

But google sucks anyway so I‘ll stay with postmarketOS on my oneplus6 and wait for my camera to come to life some day (hopefully).

I used modrinth launcher since the whole platform is open source afaik. Big fan.

That said, I stopped playing minecraft since microsoft has perverted everything I liked about it to make it a childrens game with microtransactions. They recently announced ramping up the breakneck speed of updates to make it more like a live service game which may devastate the mod community.

I since made a voxelibre server which works surprisingly well. I also maintain a minecraft inspired texture pack since I dislike visual change.

In any case. Good luck.

I completely agree that everyone should use free software. Not for free of course but by donating or straight up paying for it.

That aside, I think your stance is the „vindictive vegan“ approach. While I‘m a newly found fan of veganism, I strongly dislike the „you’re either with us or against us“ approach.

I personally run a matrix server (which is foss, even if it sounds like its second class foss to you) and have it bridged to discord, whatsapp and signal. Why? Because that helps me convert people.

Their reasons for joining matrix:

  • You can use one app (fluffychat in my case) instead of four apps
  • People on the other platforms miss out if the bridge goes down which shows them its matrix first. With mautrix bridges, the bridge very rarely goes down btw
  • their chats will be accessible for them forever if they wish, with backups they can take whenever they like
  • no chance the EU breaks their encryption
  • no chance for discord, meta or anyone else to sell their data (of course not in the bridged room)

I think there are better albeit more manipulative ways to get people to convert instead of punching them on the nose. Certain matrix only rooms do help, provided they have no equivalent on the other side.

Anyway, have a good one.

Strongly agree! I switched as well, so did my wife and its glorious. We‘re both avid gamers and no issues so far. We have strong opinions about intrusive anti cheat software so that helped.

I did make a windows vm for my wife since she needs to work with adobe sometimes and it seems to work perfectly so far.

Feel free to update on your journey.

The link makes it seem like crap hardware, and sure 4gb of ram is really crappy. But how does this compare with one of my kid's Fire tablets? Does anyone have opinions on that?

Google has to face a class action lawsuit over Chrome’s data collection

"Google will have to face a class action lawsuit that accuses it of collecting users’ data through Chrome without their consent. In a decision on Tuesday, a federal appeals court reversed a December 2022 ruling that dismissed the case, saying the lower court should’ve reviewed Google’s disclosures and determined “whether a reasonable user reading them would think that he or she was consenting to the data collection.”...

Searching for good dev board. (lemmy.giftedmc.com)

Hi folks,

after seeing a lot about RISC-V I would really like to get my hands on one of the sbc/dev boards. Since it is a hobby project, I‘d like to spend as little as possible while knowing that cheaping out wont get me far.

I have looked at the starfive visionfive 2 and also bananapi bpi-f3. The latter just came to my attention today.

I‘m thinking of ordering fron waveshare but the dhl shipping is 40% of the price on top so a couple friends might chip in.

My personal ideas are learning to work with and program, compile, package for risc-v as well as seeing first hand how far the development progresses. I dont mind building something with the board or using it as a pc but thats not my first use.

Any better options? Anyone have experience with waveshare? Other suggestions?

Thanks for reading!

The peertube kodi addon has been unavailable for a long time and it's sad because peertube has a lot of cool videos.

That's why I decided to make a new one for the python 3 generation of kodi. It is available on the official repository under "next gen peertube addon" or plugin.video. pt

The app is pretty basic but works (tested on kodi for linux). Disclaimer: For some reason, the libreelec version of kodi does not seem to work with it yet. I'm troubleshooting the issue atm.

Feel free to download and test the app, check the source on github and leave a star or support the project if you wish.

Google's campaign against ad blockers across its services just got more aggressive. According to a report by PC World, the company has made some alterations to its extension support on Google Chrome.

Google Chrome recently changed its extension support from the Manifest V2 framework to the new Manifest V3 framework. The browser policy changes will impact one of the most popular adblockers (arguably), uBlock Origin.

The transition to the Manifest V3 framework means extensions like uBlock Origin can't use remotely hosted code. According to Google, it "presents security risks by allowing unreviewed code to be executed in extensions." The new policy changes will only allow an extension to execute JavaScript as part of its package.

Over 30 million Google Chrome users use uBlock Origin, but the tool will be automatically disabled soon via an update. Google will let users enable the feature via the settings for a limited period before it's completely scrapped. From this point, users will be forced to switch to another browser or choose another ad blocker.
