Yeah, I would wait since you have a gaming laptop. I enjoy my steamdeck when I use it. It's more comfortable then the Switch, but has worse battery life and the screen isnt the best (I have a swoled though). Offline mode is much more hit and miss since pc gaming kinda of expects internet all the time. Plus since it's Linux games can be hit and miss. Proton has been making amazing strides. I'm really hopeful for seeing the handheld pc market improve though. And hopefully my next gaming desktop can skip windows as well.
I would wait, I enjoy mine and it was worth it. But the Deck does have some issues that revisions could fix. I bought it with the hope of showing there is a market in Linux gaming, along with a portable market. Having a standard baseline will help show there is a market.
Currently playing Diablo 4 if I have internet access, Otherwise going through old SNES JRPGs

Yeah runs pretty well, I have FSR on and limited to 40 fps, for battery life reasons but does 60 fine. Battle.net client was a little wonky installing the game as the install button was cut off the screen. But once installed runs just fine.
