Long story short, coworker was talking about how he upgraded from a 3080 to a 4080 last week. He asked if I was interested in buying his old 3080 for 400 USD. I told him yes of course (my gaming pc still running a 970 and I’m getting back into PC gaming after a long break).

Well today he comes in, says he was mistaken, it’s actually a 3060 and because of that he’s willing to sell it for 300 USD. I thanked him but after seeing new 3060s for sale on Amazon for the same price I’m thinking that I need to haggle or look for another card. Thoughts?

TLDR: Used 3060 for 200-250 USD, new 3060 for 300 USD or another option preferably vram min 10gb. Very top end of my budget (stretching it) is $450-500. I want to game at 4k (I know “good luck” but I wouldn’t mind settling for 1440) and have a respectable bump up in graphics performance from the Xbox series X or else the purchase isn’t really worth it to me, as the Xbox is already doing 4k @120 hz on my TV. Yes I know the Xbox 4k is probably upscaled.

On the App Store, it’s also under the “essentials” section. The “Must-have iPhone apps”. Lmfao. I hate that state of technology in 2023. Burn it all down.

I’m sorry you had to experience that on discord. Unfortunately the internet has become a forum for everyone’s worst behavior. I think this might be a good metaphor or why masking is sort of pushed on neurodivergent individuals. Imagine the impossible task of uniformly cleaning up everyone’s behavior online. It’s probably one of the most persistent issues experienced online. Instead of changing everyone’s behavior, you change your own to avoid those types of uncomfortable situations. It’s the online version of real world masking. It’s unfortunate and really sucks and I wish it was different, but most humans are wired a certain way, and changing that wiring is equivalent to rewiring human nature, and if we could do that, the world would be a much different place.

As to the situation with your wife, I have this issue as a NT living with my NT wife and I don’t know a person alive who doesn’t. You’ll need to evaluate that situation alone because every relationship is different.

I can’t think of any well balanced person who would yell at someone who is neurodivergent for simply behaving in a way that is neurodivergent. Can you give an example of something like this happening? It could be very possible that you’ve just surrounded yourself with the wrong people, or you’ve inadvertently caused someone harm (really the only excusable reason to yell at someone).

Very possibly a disabled or wheelchair bound person. Those containers suck. I’m surprised there isn’t more trash next to it

Maybe I am failing to understand the point here, but if the name gets changed, what would be the point if a new PC Master Race community can just get remade afterwards? The name of this community is really the only differentiating piece of identity that makes this community different from any other PC gaming community.

Is there a way to represent general text information on a panel that is pulled programmatically like from Prometheus or Node Exporter? Like MAC address, IP address, logged in User, hardware make and model. The data is there, just don’t know how to represent it in Grafana

There is no reason to suspect this wordplay wasn’t done on purpose 🤔

I've been weightlifting at the gym with my brother at least 2-3 days a week for the last 2 months. I recently noticed a week or so ago, after my workouts, the soreness has decreased in the days following, tremendously. No longer am I walking around with locked knees because my legs are going to give out, or with T-rex arms because my biceps are locked up solid.

I love the feeling I get after I come back, and my body feels totally relaxed and used up. I have noticed I get anxious if I go more than a couple of days without going.

Physically I've noticed my muscles have started getting harder, like they are flexing even when they are at rest. I've started losing weight, my wife has mentioned it multiple times, and when I feel parts of my body throughout the day, it feels like certain places where fat had built up are now "smaller". I also notice that just moving around has gotten easier. Getting up from seated, while squatted, climbing stairs and ladders, moving furniture etc, has all gotten a little bit easier. I haven't gotten on the scale, but I suspect I've lost maybe 10 pounds, but it might be more. I'm still probably 40 pounds overweight so there is plenty more room to improve.

Mentally, I've noticed my confidence has grown and I feel much more comfortable with my body. I have the confidence to start limiting my calories in a meaningful way now, and I'm also currently psyching myself up to start running on my off days.

I used to dread gym days, but now, I get excited to push myself and crave the broken down feeling it used to give me when I was more out of shape.

I think the drive that keeps me going back, is the fear of losing what I've gained.

Anyways, what has kept the rest of you going? How long have you been going and how long until you feel like you started hitting your goals? Any advice for someone like me in this early stage?

Much love, thanks everyone!

I just posted a link to this on the sub for shits and giggles expecting it to either not work or get banned within minutes. Nope, it’s there and people are pissed. Guess he’s not even nodding his newly stolen sub

Something I miss from Reddit was that just about all my favorite games had their own subreddits. Like I happen to be a huge fan of Snowrunner but I don’t see any communities specifically about Snowrunner on Lemmy. But Elden Ring has a community on 2 instances with less than 100 subs total. I think the one hosted on Lemmy.world has 8 subs and 1 post. Elden Ring was game of the year in 2022!

I guess I just don’t see enough engagement on these dedicated communities to see the value in making my own Snowrunner community or any other game in general really.

Thoughts?

Love you guys!

Dude dev time on this app has been literally just about the fastest I’ve ever seen. Usually something like this takes a few years or at least months to get to where it’s at now, and we are seeing it have complete feature sets come out overnight?!? How???

I'm currently running homebridge and pihole from an older Lenovo (i5, 256 SSD, 8GB ram) laptop (tweaked power settings to allow idle when closed) hardwired into a switch. I am currently running Ubuntu Server LTS, and have uptime ~2 weeks. I'm a little worried about reliability, I was originally using Ubuntu Desktop LTS, and I had an issue with the OS crashing after a 4 days of basically idle...

So my question is, is this a feasible solution? Should I pursue something like a SBC or migrate the machine to an old desktop instead? I don't mind working on the machine occasionally, performing maintenance etc but I don't want to have to troubleshoot the machine on a weekly basis.

I also would like to get into more self hosting, I find it to be super interesting and fun, does anyone have any projects they wouldn't mind recommending or sharing?

Thanks guys!

Feels good to be free.

Btw I feel like the last 2 days, things at Lemmy have gotten a lot better, Lemmy.world seems to be operating very smoothly and my expertise with Memmy is becoming close to daily driver good.

Hope to make many more good connections here with you folks and love how active things are becoming

I’ve been using Mlem and Memmy App. I have to say, both have their merit but I have been LOVING a the Memmy app. Thoughts?

[-] bloodtide@lemmy.world 15 points 1 year ago

I wish, but I’m on iOS and the equivalent, Mlem, is straight alpha jank. I actually turned the spot Apollo used to be in, into a folder containing both the web shortcut, Mlem and also a shortcut to Lemmy Community Browser and use all three for different things for now due to feature disparity

You are absolutely right, you are hitting the nail on the head with the issues I had with Reddit too. I was pretty much just a lurker because it seemed like every time I tried to reach out or make a connection with a community, it was largely unseen or ignored.

Cheers to a new start friend!

If I sign up on an instance that happens to be halfway around the world, how does that effect my overall performance? Obviously locally hosted content will be slower, but what about remote content?

Debating on creating a new account on an instance hosted closer to my geolocation

Save your Lemmy homepage as a shortcut on your Home Screen, move your Reddit app and replace it with your Lemmy shortcut.

I just opened Reddit 5x today and had to figure out how to train myself not to use it. This seemed to help me, I hope it helps others too.

Stay strong brothers and sisters. Remember, the more we post, the better it gets.
