I agree
I think in threads where an obviously well-informed computer user asks a question about how to accomplish something or troubleshoot something in Windows, it's pretty much never helpful to recommend using Linux instead. They probably know about Linux. They either must, or want to use Windows. It's a pretty common occurrence, however.
Though these days, you might get to recommend Linux anyway by saying "you should use wsl2."
To protect her privacy, of course
It's kinda unusual for Saudi Arabia to stick up for Palestinians, isn't it? Am I wrong about that?
ETA: After a little reading, it seems that I am wrong about that but "it's complicated."
I'm not personally in favor of preemptively blocking threads on my instance and I don't find the EEE argument at all convincing in this case. But other instances doing that is no problem at all, it's fine!
This is why I prefer using my own instance- I don't want these federation choices made for me by people like this.
I'm glad that so far it seems that people on lemmy understand that- first and foremost, this is a tool giving an end user what the end user is asking for, not something that can actually "want" to deceive. And since it got things wrong so often, we have no reason to think the reasons given for "lying" previously are true. It's giving you statistically plausible responses to what you ask for, whether it's true or not. It's no different from the headlines saying things like "ChatGPT helped me design a concentration camp!!" Well of course it did, you kept asking it to!
My first question is "how long ago?" Because if I'm talking to a 30 year old who was a nazi at 20, then I'm not even suspicious. If it was much more recent, I'll give them the benefit of the doubt but I'll keep an eye on em. I don't want people whose sympathies are changing from far right to far left to think that they will always be unwelcome, but I have to be wary of bad faith actors.
I'm actually kinda waiting a few releases to start promoting my instance anywhere, letting some other brave instance admins work the kinks out a bit first.
I actually died
Right, even if you don't use anything affected by the restrictions being put on the API, I just feel like Reddit will get noticeably worse from here on out. Huffman is basically promising that it will.
And life has been transformed! Everything is wonderful now!
