Fun thought. I'd try wrapping their wifi router in a faraday cage of chicken wire, test that the signal isn't going out with a nearby smartphone, then plug ethernet from their to my own wifi router.
For anyone considering ranger, their complexity goes up if you go with animal companion or snare.
Snares in particular means trying to make them work in combat, and waiting lots of levels before they can work in combat. Or it means trying to anticipate combat and setting them up beforehand. And more options open up for snares with the advanced players guide because of ranger focus spells and because of the snare crafter archetype.
Snares are also a problem for players. If a GM suddenly likes and thinks seriously about snares, then enemies will use them. And enemies can potentially protect their base or whatever with snares ahead of time. It's potentially brutal.
I have some tech skill and this option looked flat out daunting to me. Then when considering the cost of domain, it looked more expensive than choosing a mail service.
Does anyone know a good guide for own mail server, including getting cheap enough domain?
I agree. I have a reMarkable 2 and it cannot keep up with a game session. And that's with me as a player. It'll never timely switch between notes, character sheet, and game book.
I got a samsung s6 lite and I'm pretty happy with it. Samsung has a mode called Dex on this and some of their other tablets that let you view a desktop with any of your apps running in resizable windows. As a player, it's been nice having Nethys, pathbuilder, a notes app, and more floating around. As a GM, who knows?
I haven't tried it but if it chicken wire has enough metal in it, it should work, in principle. I don't get great reception in my chicken run wrapped in chicken wire, if that makes for a good sign.
