Reminder that ASPI gets money from the US government and US weapons companies.

They say they're independent, but regardless I doubt a think tank that believes in peace would receive such funding.

Which is why they don't give you that button.

With Coalition support. The CIA and LNP can do a lot together. Their default playbook is fomenting bad media coverage against the PM. Then they can use some quirk of the constitution like they did with Whitlam, or the CIA can pick out a replacement PM from within Labor like they did with Rudd.

Reform in the UK, National Rally in France.

That leaves India as the most "liberal and democratic" of the nuclear armed countries in the coming decade. Followed by Cuba.

She is an opportunist. She does not care about the advancement of aboriginal well-being.

I'd say the mere act of expressing these views publicly, possibly intimidating minorities, says enough about someone's character.

And the protests were organized by neo-nazis IIRC.

The prime ministers that didn't play the game didn't last more than 3 years. Then we got the LNP who actually actively strengthen the neoliberal system. This whole "both sides are the same" argument needs to die, firstly because the LNP is corrupt and much more incompetent, but also because it makes the corruption and incompetence seem less bad when people say (or imply) that.

I would never join the ADF, not just because I use adblock. Joining the Australian military is joining the American military in all it's war crimes.

Even Trump's allies don't know what's going on ... does he even have allies? I think it's just El Salvador, Israel, Hungary, and Vietnam. Israel is the only one who they seem to tell anything.

Just take the Japanese approach, require proof that your garage is big enough before selling you the car.

I think the harms are real. They're not exclusive to children.

There are three categories of harm:

  • Radicalization, as the algorithm deliberately feeds you bad takes from your political opponents and good takes from your political allies, to keep you engaged.
  • Overstimulation, the YouTube Kids channel Cocomelon is way too addictive for kids. This isn't exclusive to social media, and YouTube Kids apparently has an exemption.
  • Addiction, social media eats into hours upon hours in kid's days. Time they could spend with their family/friends or processing their emotions, instead they're being numbed out on their phone.

I think we should ban algorithmic recommendations (or strictly limit them), ban the practices of Cocomelon, and ... I'm not sure what we can do about the addiction thing (humans are super prone to addiction). I'd also ban smart-phones in schools, kids should only be allowed flip-phones/brick-phones.

Regional seats often held for or swung to the LNP. The election results aren't as much of a glowing endorsement for renewables as you suggest. Still, it is rich for that statement to be coming from the Nationals, considering that their long history of lies about renewables are partly to blame for the loss of their social license.
