Hey deckers!

I grabbed Elden ring in the summer sale, but it keeps freezing and crashing after some time. I found a few posts including Github - all of them are about 2 month old that seem to have similar behavior.

I was wondering if anyone here has the same issue and maybe even a workaround & fix. I've tried a few things, but nothing worked so far.

Elden Ring (and only Elden Ring) freezes after about 5-30 minutes of playtime. Had a longer session once - but only once.

Tested steps:

  • Same behavior in Desktop-mode or Game-mode.
  • Same behavior when Limiting Wattage
  • Same behavior turning of the new fan curve
  • Same behavior when Easy Anti Cheat is disabled (launching elden ring.exe and creating steamID.txt)
  • Same behavior with multiple Proton versions (including GE)
  • Same behavior after deleting protonfiles
  • Same behavior after reinstalling the game
  • Same behavior after verifying files
  • Temperature of the device is normal

OS 3.4.8, No Beta Hardware is about 6 month old, no other issues. Almost any game runs without issues.

I personnaly agree with you. If content is not supposed to be searchable, maybe don't post it online. It is a different problem for writers, artists and possibly even journalists.

But I think it's a fair debate - unfortuantely one that was one (or the only?) reason the whole reddit API debacle startetd.

On the other hand maybe Lemmy should allow certain communities allow an "only for members" view?

Will we try to prevent google (and other) scrapers?

The headline is pretty much a summary. "Google Says It will Scrape Everything You Post Online for AI" https://www.gizmodo.com.au/2023/07/google-says-it-will-scrape-everything-you-post-online-for-ai/

The first question is obviously; do we as a community on Lemmy even want to try and stop them from scraping our content here? If no; well. ok then.

If yes; how? I'm not sure if "preventing access" to unregistered users would really prevent this. Pretty sure google has enough money and manpower to figure out a way to make it their mission to get around "can only accessed by members" content.

If that wasn’t abstract enough … there was Ren & Stimpy.

Hey!

I'm looking for a better mail experience. I love the look and feel of Geary, but it (still) doesn't have PGP. And from the looks it's not going to happen any time soon...

I hate the look and feel of evolution and thunderbird (and the betterbird clone) ...

I need PGP to work within the client (yes I can PGP crypt messages anywhere in the terminal etc...) but I need the integration.

I consider betterbird my current only workaround, but I'm looking for alternatives. I'm really bad at coding so I can't participate in the Geary project as much as I would like to do it.

FYI: https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/geary/-/issues/6

my firefox (iOS) enabled sponsored shortcuts and I hate it. Yes I can disable it - I still hate it.

I’d want to love it…

but as ridiculous as it sounds, for something like this to be really useful to me I unfortunately need a mobile app. a web-app seems hard to realize for a real e2e encryption & sync - for my scenario :(

I’m aware how much effort this is already… it looks good but as much as I want to use it, I can’t due to my workflow requiring a mobile device app (iOS in my case)

but it does look really promising!

Reddit will never be normal again after this. Someone else said it recently - It doesn't matter if only 5% (or less) of the user base leave because this 5% will most likely be the most passionate and active users actively creating content that is not advertisement.
In the long run; the content quality will decline because of that.

In addition, these statistics likely do not distinguish what is bot traffic that are scraping the site vs users. The bots will keep scraping.

It might be cheap but it’s also very reliable, intuitive, familiar and all that in even weird conditions… which millions of controllers prove in any gamers household every day. In addition it’s used by military forces all around the world - including bomb squads because it works (mostly its the xbox 360 as far ad know)

the problem is elsewhere - i’m almost certain of it.

Best I can do is spent some of the claps I have left from the generous clapping during covid.

Isn’t 1passwoed subscription only? If I remember correctly that’s what drove me away from a once great application.

and now they want to collect data from paying customers?? excuse me? are you insane?

crash and burn.

„they” could have “solved” the necessity for owning a pirate hat. but they fucked up too many times.

even if you’re ok with just streaming and owning nothing for your money… you need like 6 subscriptions to listen and watch the stuff you want. I’m not willing nor able to spend hundreds for nothing. I used that money to purchase a large hard drive and some cool tshirts from my favorite bands.

greed is an ugly removed and I am wearing yet again my trusty old pirate hat.

Don’t know why but I’m skeptical. AAA releases have been quite often a disappointment for me the past few years. Hope it’s going to keep the promise…

I agree fully, but I want to add that I would not suggest a freerange VPN.

Nothing is free on a free VPN - you pay with your data. It's always a question of trust using any type of VPN, but a free VPN is 100% going to sell collected information to ... whom ever.

Anything else. Yes. Save everything, leech everything. I hate streaming music... it makes no sense to me. A movie I watch once ... mh. maybe. Anything else. Load it. Save it. Hoard it.

Surely a sustainable model. Great move reddit. /s

I never used digg.com and im a bit out of the loop, but wasn't it almost the same issue that essentially killed it?

It's a very bizzare modell to make users pay to access their own created content. I get that hosting costs money and it needs to be paid. but the amount of adds on plebbit has become unbearable / that should get them money enouth to cover hosting. Maybe I'm living under a rock...
