Somehow NixOS really is like a fucking crack. I had like a 6 months non-stop hyperfixation about configuring everything using NixOS and Home Manager. Almost every evening. Now I have a polished setup of my personal and work laptops, homelab server and a VPS. And I have no regrets, this thing is amazing.

Work on Free Open Source Software. Seriously, I fucking love software engineering and I can't really imagine doing anything else with my life. In fact, that's kinda my current plan - work towards financial independence and then work on things that matter to me, on my own terms. I really hope I won't get burned out somewhere in the process.

I have never heard of anyone using aliases for anything but trivial one-liners. I don't think people consider them as an alternative to scripts so I don't really get the point of half of this post.

However, the part explaining the benefits of using scripts over aliases even for trivial one-liners is pretty neat.

Apparently my way of consuming YT is very different from most people. I do rely on subscriptions feed, but I have never used notifications. The feed still works perfectly - for me at least.

Just out of curiosity. Why do you need notifications? Do you try to watch the videos as soon they are posted?

A slightly unusual video from the fantastic Technology Connections channel. It articulates a lot of my own thoughts on social media, "algorithms" and AI.

What surprised me the most was the statistic that only 3% of author's views come from the subscriptions feed. This is wild to me because subscriptions are pretty much the only way I have ever used YouTube.

He has told people that they should kill themself. I'm not trying to throw a shade on him but that's the unfortunate truth.

Well, I read like a hundred times that going for a coffee is an incredibly boring date idea and doing some activity you both actually enjoy is much better.

For what it's worth, I hate the idea of a coffee / dinner date. Seems incredibly forced and like some kind of an interview. Though, I'm not dating and not interested in doing it, so I might be completely out of touch.

WTF? Why?

Me and my friends always thank each other after spending fun time together, how is it even controversial?

I have no idea how people use so much RAM. I use a 16 GB machine for work and it runs perfectly. For the majority of the time I'm well below 8GB. And I do use Electron apps.

Of course, I'm aware of the possible uses demanding more than 16 GB but I can't believe this would be the case for a majority of the people.

Incredibly detailed and clear explanation of computer graphics. I highly recommend all videos from Branch Education - they're so good I can't believe they're free!

I see almost exclusively news in this community but no rules forbidding different content so I guess this is ok? It's undeniably related to technology.

Is 600 MB a lot for pandas? Of course, CSV isn't really optimal but I would've sworn pandas happily works with gigabytes of data.

Hi everyone! It's my first post here in an attempt to make this community a bit more active.

I've been recently diagnosed at 26 so it's all pretty new to me. However, I really appreciate the fact that now I have a new vocabulary to talk about the stuff I experience and communities like this which might be helpful in understanding myself better.

I'm a Software Engineer and I love everything related to programming / Linux / Computer Science. It's been quite literally the most important part of my life since I was like 15. Usually it's great but sometimes when I get a new idea I tend to hyperfixate pretty hard on it to the point where it becomes quite tiring. It could be an idea for a new project, a new technology to learn or to configure something in my Linux setup. Right now it's moving my entire computer setup to NixOS.

When I fixate on something like this I usually spend pretty much all of my free time on it. Moreover, my sleep usually is hurt as well because I often can't fall asleep thinking about the stuff I'm currently working on. I will literally lie in bed trying to fall asleep and my brain tries to solve problems or plans and designs stuff. I will spend most of my weekends in front of the computer, even though I love spending time outside, especially in the nice summer weather. But I just can't seem to stop. I force myself to go for walks and runs but it's not really relaxing because, you guessed it, I'm thinking about my project all the time. If I try to distract myself with a podcast I will often notice 15 minutes in that I stopped listening after the first minute or so.

I need some way to balance this computer stuff with other things in my life. I just need to chill out sometimes. To play some games, watch some youtube or read a book lying in a hammock without thinking about programming literally every minute I'm awake.

The best solution I found so far is weed. It's not 100% effective but in general getting high and going outside tends to help me relax at least a bit. Well, travelling or meeting with people is usually effective in breaking my train of thoughts too. But obviously it comes with its own set of challenges and it's not something I'm willing to do often.

So, fellow autists, do you experience something similar? How do you deal with it? Please share advice, experience, or anything related.

I'll stick with KeePassXC but I'm still very happy to see them remembering about Linux. I hope Drive will be next, this is something I'm really waiting for.

I can only use it as a laptop 1% of the time and it still makes perfect sense because otherwise I would have own a separate device for this 1% of the time.
