i honestly didn't know it was so liberal until the shitlibs showed up and destroyed all conversation that didn't agree with them

then i remembered i had an account here and i just don't go back there anymore

my mom and stepdad thought they were going to be landlords at one point too.. they had no idea what they were doing, bought land in a floodplain unknowingly, ended up unable to build anything and sold for less money than they bought for

they also tried to breed our little shihtzu but he wasn't into it, he liked his stuffed monkey more

it is if the stars align.. i had considered myself a liberal for most of my life because i was one.. i hated the system but i never looked beyond it and was blind to reality.

one day that changed.. people i respected shit all over me for something i thought we were definitely all in the same page about. i got all upset and started digging for information to prove them wrong and discovered a whole other mindset out there that aligned far better with what i felt deep down then i was able to go back and read posts and tweets in a whole new light and everything made so much more sense. and i got even more pissed, but pissed for the right reasons this time. pissed that i had been so blind all my life and never bothered to try to think for myself. pissed that everyone i knew personally was just as blind and now hated when i tried to tell them to also look beyond the programming... because of course that's a tired and played out trope that everyone has heard a hundred times.

i dunno, i think if someone sincerely believes that things are not right with the world they can open their mind given the right opportunity to crack through that seemingly impenetrable wall of self-satisfied ignorance and pride.

but you can't force anyone to see it

i hate to say it, but i don't want the network effect taking off. in fact, that's a sign it's time to leave. is it possible to ever just have a smallish community where real discussion and ideas can flourish without the rest of the US dragging everything down to the lowest common denominator?

Man.. I haven't been on reddit in quite a while but I don't remember it being such a shitlibfest. It's really bad and it pretty well overran lemmy.ml immediately.

It didn't used to be so liberal though right? It seems to me with the flood of people from reddit it flipped overnight into almost the exact same liberal groupthink as reddit had.

More often than not when the US points fingers at others they're just projecting.
