Looks like GTA V with mods. I don't get everyone being so excited about the graphics.

Maybe this are console players who haven't seen GTA V on PC but graphics wise it doesn't seem like a huge upgrade.

Sure I'm excited for the story and new possibilities like being able to enter more buildings and maybe more activities like in rdr2 but graphics wise it kinda looks "normal".

Hello everyone!

Since this is the only bigger flight sim related community on Lemmy I thought my only chance was to ask the question here. Hope you don't mind the brief off-topic discussion. If you don't like it just delete it.

I like msfs 2020 for its graphics only and that's it. You can practise VFR flying skills there but I don't see the point in using it for anything else than that?

If you want a high fidelity model of an a320 or 737 go for FSX or p3dv5/6 and fslabs or PMDG respectively. It's a little bit unfortunate that those companies didn't release their products for msfs 2020.

Also if you want to learn flying and what it's actually about go for FSX. It has a huge flight school with a ton of literature and training material it's just so good. Topics like IFR are kind of well covered including VOR, ILS, Holding patterns etc. You actually learn the basics of IFR, what a VOR is, how does it work? how to tune the radios, what is an ADF? How and why does it work etc. But I guess you already know what I mean.

I miss all this stuff in msfs2020. Sure there are some very basic flight tutorials but nothing compared to FSX.

So I was wondering if FSX is the only flight sim out there that is offering an in depth flight school/ flight tutorials or are there some similar alternatives like add-ons or anything else for other sims? I tried looking it up but couldn't find anything so I guess there's none.

Hello!

I'm reinstalling windows 10 on my laptop (MSI GS66 Stealth 10se) from scratch and only enabling security updates therefore I need to install all the drivers on my own.

So far I have installed my Intel integrated graphics driver and a wireless driver and a driver for my dedicated GPU. I got all of these straight from Intel's website and not from my laptops manufacturers website.

On my laptops manufacturer website I can also see a chipset driver. I tried to look for it on Intel's website but only found a "Chipset INF Utility" (driver?). After looking on google and over the interwebs I found out that this INF Utility isn't really a driver but needed for naming some system components in the windows devices settings (devmgmt.msc).

I downloaded this supposed chipset driver form my laptop manufacturer's website and it seemed to be an older version of this INF Utility from Intel. But if this INF Utility is not a driver (laptop manufacturer calls it a driver) do I need a chipset driver? How do I know If I need one anyways? And where do I get a chipset driver if I need one?

I don't know if its the right Lemmy community to ask but I thought its worth a try haha.

So I'm looking for the name of a game I played around 2000-2007 on windows XP. I would say this game has some similarities to exo one. It‘s also very similar to the game “SpaceRoads” (it’s on steam). The difference to SpaceRoads is that you actually slide down as well (if I remember correctly) and are some sort of ball not a space ship. You’re a ball or disc on a huge slide in space. Your objective is to slide all the way down to finish the level. I think there was a bigger cube after the finish line where you had to slide in. You could easily fall down and there were some obstacles in your way. There were also power ups that let you slow down time when you held down space (you also changed color while slowing down time and holding down space). Another power up was the ability to jump also by pressing space (you also changed color) and one more power up was speeding up by holding down space (not sure about this power up). I’m not really sure about the power up pickups. Maybe it was like one level with the ability to jump when pressing space and the next level with the ability to slow down time while holding space.

Its similar to the game Ballance and Chromadrome. Its like a combination of Ballance, Chromadrome and SpaceRoads.

Any help is hugely appreciated. Thanks everyone!:)

Edit: Graphics wise its similar to the Mario N64 DS multiplayer slide level where youbl could race against your multiplayer buddy.

Ah lol my bad. Thanks for clarifying 😅

[-] PeanutsHere@lemmy.world 6 points 1 year ago

What is this? 😂 A dog, a cat or something else?

[-] PeanutsHere@lemmy.world 5 points 1 year ago

I don't care about their code in the post body. If there's a possibility I just block the whole instance. Don't want to see anything from them.

[-] PeanutsHere@lemmy.world 2 points 1 year ago

Whats the benefit of encoding it? Others might not know what that even is.

[-] PeanutsHere@lemmy.world 6 points 1 year ago

Or else what? I guess they can't do much?

[-] PeanutsHere@lemmy.world 3 points 1 year ago

How should it be called instead?

I don't exactly understand how this is going to kill small instances? I just stared with the Fediverse stuff so I might have understood it wrong:

Point 1: "Meta will unethically defederate from instances..." I'm assuming that means they'll block access to those instances for anyone that has an account on the Meta instance? I don't really see the problem with that. This won't affect small instances at all because people who want to view other instances will have an account somewhere else and people using the meta instance probably wouldn't have heard of the fediverse in the first place if it wasn't for meta. Its a win basically since they'll get introduced to the fediverse concept which is a step in the right direction. And small instances will stay as they are which is unaffected.

Point 2: If I understood it correctly they can only slow down access to other instances if one uses an account created on the meta instance? So same argument as in point 1.

Thanks for the hint. What does

DROP_TABLE ALL

mean?

Also would you say random text that doesn't make sense is better or just copy pasting a paragraph from somewhere? Or just a one liner like: "Moved to Lemmy."?

Hello Lemmy!

How do you recommend dealing with your old reddit account/ posts? Should I delete my old posts or just leave them there? Or maybe replace everything with the same text?

I heard that reddit might be restoring deleted posts. Would editing the post and then deleting it or just editing it be the better alternative to just deleting it?

I've seen the post that recommends doing all that BEFORE the API shutdown but now it's after so I figured maybe something had changed about the tactics?

How did you go about it?

[-] PeanutsHere@lemmy.world 3 points 1 year ago

Not sure anymore. Since you're asking I'm assuming it makes a difference?

I created a month ago a Lemmy account using a throwaway email. Now I cannot sign in anymore. Is it possible that lemmy.world deleted my account around a week after it's creation?

Thank you for the detailed answer!

Lemmy instances (lemmy.world)

Hello, I just have a quick question regarding lemmy instances.

If one instance doesn't allow creating new communities and I register a lemmy account on that instance am I going to be able to create a new community on another instance using that lemmy account? Also if it has turned off downvotes is it possible to downvote posts on other instances?
