I'm part of a Karen Facebook group that's in my neighborhood. Joined because I saw their annoying signs in yards about "don't allow 5 story housing here".

It's basically what you'd expect. A bunch of racist white people that don't want their property value going down while they live in their single family home with no children.

Recently the title of one of their emails was along the lines of.

UPDATE: City wants to charge single family homes MORE property tax. And they still can't provide good water pressure to the top of the hill!

It's like. Dude. Your complaint is explaining itself. Single family homes are a massive loss to city infrastructure. Maybe if you let that 3-5 story unit be built up the hill they'd have enough tax revenue to improve the water infrastructure.

They are always always shooting themselves in the foot with every argument they make. It's why I joined the group. It's very entertaining.

If our idea is just to "stick it" to some racist people in Texas I think we need to rethink that plan. I want those racist people in Texas to have all of the things above too. I want the material conditions to improve for everyone because I know that that is what helps to end these manufactured divisions of race, gender, or religion.

Our goals can't be to just play whackamole with fucked up laws in red states.

Yeah this is like the least concerning thing I've heard. No one gives a shit if some dude downloaded TV shows or pirated some games. That's like 80% of the engineers I work with.

The problem isn't necessarily smart toilets. The problem is companies attempting to have complete control over the product and ensuring that their products do not function without dependency on their infrastructure.

There is no functional reason to have a toilet connect to an outside server. There are no functional reasons to have many of these smart devices require outside dependencies. But their profits and their subscription models definitely benefit from being able to remotely disable features.

My dude. Please learn a little bit about the history of music. It's ok to be ignorant of it. You grew up in a country that has appropriated and stolen the art forms of black artist since before jazz music even existed.

But some of us use this massive source of information called "The Internet" to actually learn. Seriously, there is so much interesting shit out there. You don't even need to be "woke". You can literally just be interested in where music genres came from and their influence. If you do even a little bit of listening you'll learn about how heavily every form of "pop" culture is heavily heavily influenced by black culture and in turn monetized by capitalist for profit.

Today the "face" of which is exploited black artist. But in the past was often a "white face" that was used to monetize black culture or artist that could never become "mainstream".

This is exactly what a dude from the 80s knew. And he didn't even have the Internet. He just knew the music industry and called it out for its failures. You have no excuse in 2025 to judge a white dude in the 80s pointing to well documented exploitations of black culture.

Black Americans did not only influence rap. They influenced every part of pop music for a century. They were only able to be successfully monetized around the time that rap music became popular. Seriously, you can open yourself up to a whole new world of music and history. You just have to be curious. You have the Internet. Good luck mate.
