@LukeSky Well, what kind of things does she like to stitch? Funny text? Flowers? Animals?

  1. Shame the guy for being a bad trainer (in more eloquent words)? Or maybe that can be part of option 2.

Hi all,

I'm trying to add quick links in a Google Doc to another Google Doc on the same account. Notion does this easily by typing @DocNameHere, and it magically works. Is there a function like this? I'm getting tired of going to the Doc I want to link, hitting Share, copying the link, back to the Doc I was working in, paste. There has to be an easier way.

Thanks!

I tried Dune a few times, I just can't do it. Not the books, not the miniseries, not the new movie. In theory it sounds great, but... It's not gripping me at all for some reason.

@blueskiesoc Flamingos are awesome, you have nothing to worry about 😄

Turns out, the existence of Mannish Women goes back far further than our modern discussions about gender. Starting in the mid 19th century, women not only dressed in masculine clothing, but acting, speaking, and living in mannish ways, became a concern. A growing trend to embrace the fashion styles of tailored suits brought about mannish fashion in the 1890s. The "new woman" picked all of this up and added bicycles to the mix. Sometimes mannish women stood with suffrage movements and political efforts, tying together our modern image of the very un-feminine suffragette. These women weren't always seen as ideal during the Victorian or Edwardian eras, but they persisted none-the-less. Even when "science" was being used against them or concerns over the end of society were put forward. For many, it was a simpler and more practical way of dressing. Others saw it as a completely different lifestyle and worked to throw off the expectations that had been placed on them. Embraced by a number of famous sapphic women of the early 20th century, it likely had a hand in creating the butch lesbian of today. Simply put, mannish women have been around for far longer than we realize, and the concerns over them really haven't changed in 150 years. There's a kbin userstyle for PC (do they exist for mobile?) that gives you a sidebar of your subscribed magazines that groups them from different instances! You still have to find them first though.

I read the Handmaid's Tale yesterday, finally. I'm disappointed. I did not like the writing style at all, there was no real story, just descriptions. And then it just ended. No conclusion or anything.

My best guess it's because the TV show was so intense and well made (at least the earlier seasons), and the book was... Not? Episodes would stay with me for days, but I'm struggling to recall the book already.

Maybe the book is supposed to be unsatisfying to go with the theme. Nothing much happened after Gilead was created, every day just kinda goes by. Sure there was some torture and death, but... Eh.

Maybe I was expecting too much after all the praise it got. It's my first Atwood book, and way way outside of my usual genre (fantasy, scifi, horror).

What did you all think of it?

I wrote a quick manual for some friends trying to leave reddit and get their saved stuff, maybe it'll help someone else as well. Feel free to point out any mistakes, I'm by no means an expert.

Boobytraps. Rumours about a curse/ghosts/entry fee. Pretend there's something boring in there. Allow entry, but make the process the full force of German bureaucracy (you need to file form A on a blood moon, to get form A, you need document B2, no not that one the green one, you can get it from Location C but that's only open once a month for half an hour, and if you don't wear pink they won't help you).

Maybe if we make it, they will come? (and someone will want to take over modding?)

Have more than one interest/hobby! I can't imagine doing the same for months on end with no alternative. I naturally gravitate to a monthly rotation (not consciously, just kinda happens) of high interest in something, and then there's a few things I do whenever (read a book when I have a few minutes here or there, do some cross stitching while watching my husband play a game, etc).

A script to help you make a list and export all subreddits you joined. Made by Tim Visée, not me, I just found it while looking for an easy way to get that list.
