As someone who has suffered from night terrors and other disturbingly vivid dreams, I would recommend starting to do "wake checks".

Set an alarm on your phone to go off every few hours at random times during the day. When the alarm goes off, do something that produces a reliable result, like turning a light on/off, turning on a faucet, checking the time on a clock, or pinching yourself. Make your checks as varied as possible, and do them in a different order from day to day, because you don't want the results to become part of a pattern.

Once you are in the habit of doing that, start doing those checks any time something 'out of the norm' happens. What 'out of the norm' means is up to you, but essentially any time you think that something is weird or out of place, do a check. What you are doing is training yourself to check whether you are in reality or not.

Once you start doing that, you will probably continue that habit when you end up in a dream. However, these checks will not produce reliable results when you do them in a dream. Turning on the faucet won't make it give water, the time will change drastically, lights won't turn on when you flip the switch, etc. These are now your cues to see if you are awake or not. If one of these things ever DOES start to give reliable results in a dream, stop using it immediately and substitute a different one.

Once you have a way of determining if you are awake or not, you have a way to wake up. Most people wake up after realizing they are in a dream, and even if you don't, realizing you are dreaming should result in a massive shift in what is happening in the dream.

One warning though: if you have night terrors where you end up paralyzed, you will want to have a contingency plan. My night terrors usually started in a situation where I was unable to move, and that is the main reason I struggled with them for over a decade. The only thing that helped there was meditation where I would focus on "feeling" my fingers and toes and how they moved, and then getting myself in the habit of using that meditation as an anxiety response. Doing that in a dream will usually end up waking me up because it forces my brain to focus and eventually move my body irl.

I agree with the other poster, but wanted to share what I did in a similar situation.

I woke up one day with a rash on my hip. Over the next three days it spread to my whole body, I started getting swelling in my hands, feet, and face, and I was in an incredible amount of pain. This was in the middle of shutdown for Covid, so I couldn't just go to my doctor. Eventually I went to an urgent care after my husband insisted and drove me to four different locations to find one that had room. They diagnosed me with an allergic reaction and gave me IV Benadryl and light pain meds.

After confirming I hadn't eated anything new recently, the nurses there suggested I check my meds to see if I had any allergies there. I hadn't technically been on any 'new' meds, so I looked them all up online to review the interactions and warnings myself. Turns out one of the meds I was on had a rare, but not unheard of, effect of a patient having a delayed allergic reaction. I made sure none of my other meds had the same thing and called my doctor to reference that specific section of the drug overview. They checked on their end and agreed and told me to stop the med immediately since it was safer to do than risking further reaction.

I would suggest doing a bit of research on those and, if you go with an elimination method, check which ones can cause dangerous complications if stopped immediately.

This is one I am constantly answering for people when they find out I am vegan. I am a trans man, so quite a lot of people ask me whether or not all the soy will slow or stop my hormone therapy changes.

They usually don't like the answer: that my levels are always fine, leaning towards my T being a bit too high. But that only started AFTER I went vegan. Before I went vegan, I did keto for a year, and I suffered from consistently high E and worse blood work results than any other point in my life.

About 8 years vegan now and I am the healthiest I have been in my adult life, no soy side effects at all.

We would need to expand the cropland growing food for humans, yes. But there is a lot of cropland currently growing types of corn and hay that we as humans can't eat, just so we can feed animals and get a less than 20% return on calories from the 'food' we get when we eat animal muscle and organs.

Which is why our total crop land use would go down if we didn't eat animals: we need less space to grow calories and nutrients for us that we do to feed the animals we eat. So much gets wasted with the current process that it is unsustainable, and we need to start shifting this now to avoid running into severe land and water deficiencies with the changing climate.

Anyone who still thinks that lightbulbs are a good example of planned obsolescence needs to watch Technology Connections' video about lightbulbs on YouTube. Planned obsolescence is definitely a thing, but lightbulbs are not an example of this, and this has been disproven time and time again.

Interesting. I have not had any issues using their engine even with the issue with Bing's API, but you are correct that they use Bing's index. Given that there are only four indexes to choose from, that isn't too surprising.

I actually switched to them when I saw that DuckDuckGo was about to start providing 'AI assisted results'. I wanted to ensure I was using an engine that actually respected my privacy and didn't harvest my data for slop.

Anecdotally, I can confirm that the results I get from SwissCows are very different and usually better than the ones I got from DDG. So I wonder how much of Bing's API they use.

Why are you looking to change the subject? I already said that my point stands even if the claims in the video were supported by the documents. I am not here for discussion of nitpicks of the video, I am here to see what people have to say about the topic of people with complicated histories being allowed to be active within anarchist spaces. If you agree with the person in the video, then answer my question, instead of trying to deflect.

If the number of people who died due to benefit cuts, throwing out the pandemic action plan, and direct actions from right wing terrorists who were emboldened by a president who values the speeches and actions of Hitler aren't enough to convince you of how much worse Trump was versus lib Dems, then you are missing the point of the values you claim to have. I support the values I do because they uphold human rights and save lives. What good are those values if my actions lead to the death and dehumanization of thousands, when another choice would have likely saved them?

We have more than enough resources to do both, and small companies like this are the way we prove the concept to industries for future installations 'at the source'. Until you prove that it is a net positive, it can't be sold, and you can't improve on something if you've never actually seen the system function. We will need these systems to properly fix the climate crisis, and the sooner we start putting them to use, the faster we can improve them to the point of being able to make a difference.

Again, I am not saying we should be doing this instead of renewable energy, just that we need to be doing both at the same time. Plenty of other companies and groups are working on wind, solar, nuclear, hydro, and other forms of renewable energy. We do need more companies presenting more ideas of how to clean the existing mess, otherwise we risk people thinking that we shouldn't care about fixing the issue because 'the damage is done'. That sentiment is becoming a very popular talking point among people trying to discourage climate solutions, and having examples like this showing that recovery is possible helps drive people to support faster and better solutions.

Cooking in general, and baking in particular. It is actual fun for me, and is actually stress relief as well, because it allows me creative freedom in a medium that I apparently have natural talent in. I make my own bread every week for sandwiches, bake snacks for my weekly board game meetup, volunteer to make birthday cakes for friends and family, and give out giant boxes of cookies every Christmas. I am always inventing and researching new recipes, converting recipes to accommodate various dietary needs, and trying to find ways to use ingredients I have lying around in a way that will ensure I don't have food going to waste. There is nothing better to me than when I figure out what each recipe needs at each step and why, and watching it all come together.

I grew up learning to bake from my grandmother, and I inherited her passion and apparently her natural talent for it. I have a lot of recipes memorized, can eyeball teaspoon and tablespoon measures of ingredients with good accuracy, and can somehow get anywhere from 5-10% more out of any given recipe. If a cookie recipe makes 5 dozen I get 6 or 7, even if I am not skimping on size. If I make bread, it rises quicker and larger, even if it is cold. Making cake, I always have extra batter for a couple of cupcakes. It works out though, because I can taste test everything and throw any extra cookies in the freezer so that way I am better prepared for Christmas.

It is always amazing to see someone's face light up when they get baked goods they love, especially if their diets mean they don't often get to enjoy them. For example, several of my friends have Celiac, and seeing how happy they are to get things like butter cookies, crinkly-top brownies, or gingerbread is just amazing. It is an easy way to make people feel included and happy, and I get to have fun in the kitchen while doing it.
