Love StS…it works so well on mobile!

It's so good. Truly impressed with how well it works on mobile, too!

I've seen this recommended several times...I think I should give it a go!

I was deep into Genshin for a bit, but fell off the wagon a few months ago. I download Star Rail, and dug it! But time got away from me and I haven't returned for a while. Maybe I'll dive back in!

I haven’t had a lot of time to do much console gaming lately but I still would love to have a “go to” mobile game that I can whip out and progress a few levels or grind a few items or knock out a battle or match or two.

Interested to know what games have grabbed you and held your attention lately?

Hoping to start a weekly thing where we can share the music we’ve been obsessing over for the last week with each other…and hopefully discover some cool new stuff along the way!

So, share some songs you have just discovered and been playing on repeat, songs you have always loved, or just songs you can’t seem to get out of your head right now! Tell us what you like about them, and maybe you can get some recommendations of new stuff along the way!

Here are a couple of mine:

Time and Place by Queens of the Stone Age - this is a highlight for me off their new record. It’s super funky and different than a lot of what they’ve done before. Would be killer live!

Flamethrower by King gizzard and the Lizard Wizard - I think this is my favorite off their new program metal record. Every band member is on fire on this track and it sounds great. If you’re a metal fan, give this record a spin!

1Password is a genuine life saver.

I've noticed similar stuff. My home page / active feed stays the same pretty much all day. I'll check it the next day and see some new content refreshed; probably a symptom of kbin being relatively "new" in terms of an influx of activity, so it likely won't be cycling through content as much as, say, Reddit may have been.

Who knows? Still, I'm happy to be here and looking forward to seeing this place grow more!

I'm excited to be here too. I love the UI, and I'm still trying to figure out everything. Still trying to subscribe to the correct magazines to hone in my interests and still trying to interact with users as much as I can. I haven't seen my notifications working very well, though? I had a few replies to some comments earlier and wasn't ever made aware of that...

Also: is there an iOS app/beta for kbin.social yet? Or is the plan to just use the mobile site going forward?

Excited to build this community with everyone!

This for sure. to me, it just seems like such a wave of news content...but a lot of what I enjoyed about Reddit/social media (including kbin) is the community aspect, allowing for more nuanced and popular stuff to be driven to the top of the feed (based on upvotes, retweets, user activity, clicks, or what have you). So the lack of that in RSS stuff really hinders me from fully adopting it.

[-] Evolone@kbin.social 2 points 1 year ago

Glad to know I'm not alone...because of this thread, i downloaded a couple RSS readers (Feedly and Inoreader)...but, yep, that overwhelming/daunting feeling is back!

[-] Evolone@kbin.social 2 points 1 year ago

For some reason, I could never get into RSS readers. I tried, but quickly felt overwhelmed and gave up. I've tried to get back into it over and over again, but always get just absolutely rocked by the amount of content that can be pulled in and get discouraged. It's also hard and daunting to think about getting into it at this point, now, because there's so much content out there that I don't even know where to start with adding RSS links of stuff I follow...because sometimes I don't even know where I get my stuff from (just from all over, Instagram, Twitter, Reddit, email newsletters, kbin, Google News, etc.)

I’m a lawyer. If I had a dollar for every time I have heard “oh you’re a lawyer? You must have been good at arguing when you were a kid”…or that I must be “good at public speaking”.

It’s funny cause I do commercial real estate contracts and business law…I don’t ever go to court. Most of my day is spent staring at a computer and trying to figure out the best way to change three or four words in an obscure contract provision to best protect my client’s monetary interests. I don’t really ever argue in a professional setting, but I have learned how to think differently, how to see things from various perspectives and anticipate all sides of a negotiation and how I’d best respond.

I also can’t stand all the constant “hey can I ask you a legal question” from friends and family. Or friends and family sending me random contracts and asking me to “look it over for them”. It’s like they assume that just because they know me, I can do that for free, when I spend 10-12 hours a day billing large commercial clients for that same type of work.

That leads me to my next pet peeve: people in my life assuming that my “office job” is a simple nine to five. No. I represent clients all over the world so sometimes I am up at 4:30am to get on an international call at 5:00an. Sometimes I’m working late into the night to finalize a big land purchase contract or commercial office lease; sometimes doing that after putting in a full 9 hours at the office. I don’t get paid time off; I can work at my own pace, sure, and take “days off” here and there, but the work and business and the need for legal advice is constant and I have to catch up somehow, sometime whenever I take “time off”.

I know I’m in a privileged position so I feel kind of shitty about complaining about this, but it gets pretty old. I also recognize that I definitely need to figure out a better way to improve my work/life balance…because this won’t be super sustainable for much longer.

What’s your reasoning behind avoiding lemmy.ml? Just curious as I’ve been trying to find my landing place. I’ve enjoyed kbin but have found it a bit difficult to navigate, whereas lemmy.ml and beehaw.org both seem pretty straightforward.
