Hi everyone, I am using Ubuntu since version 14.04 due to ROS and am therefore mostly familiar with its components, such as Apt, systemd, networking etc. nowadays ROS is mostly handled in docker so I have less reason to stick to Ubuntu. Cachyos sounds fun and I am a big proponent of performance being taken seriously in the sense of UX. Also default BTRFS seems nice. How much pain is it to switch? I tend to tinker a bit and appreciate the large community around Ubuntu. I know arch has a good wiki. This is for my personal main pc and usecases are Steam and Lutris gaming, office work and ROS / c++ coding

Another one bites the dust.

Hey everyone,

I have a free protonmail account for years now and will be losing access to my (main) university mail soon. My proton mail is filling up and I will need a reliable personal mail address going forward.

What is the current status with privacy oriented mail providers in the EU? I am willing to pay for my mail service but ideally not too much, protonmail is 4€/mo which is a bit much I think.

What is the general opinion now after some months on the protonmail ceo? Will the Swiss privacy laws cause issues soon? What about tuta and mailbox.org? I think I want to switch to my own domain soon so supporting custom domains is definitely something I look for. Also the ability to use imap and not have a separate app would be good.

Last time I checked half a year ago I found mailbox to be the best compromise but I decided it’s not worth the hassle yet to deal with my mail provider.

Especially since ai is just treated as outsourcing 2.0

I have a n100 server running proxmox and asustor drivestor2 pro nas.

I would like to setup a low maintenance git platform (with lfs) with backups for all of my code.

My current plan is to host forgejo and Postgres as lxc using the helperscripts installs and then store proxmox backups using the inbuilt backup tool via nfs on the nas. I am new to forgejo but heard that it uses much fewer resources than gitlab, which I am hosting in my job and have therefore more experience with.

Instead of lxc I could also host it in a vm and docker.

The n100 mainboard (asrock n100 dc itx) is a bit unstable, so backups that are easy to recover are important to me.

I want my setup to draw little power, that’s why I think gitlab and proxmox backup server are overkill.

I would also like to extend the setup with immich at some point, so anything that facilitates this would be best.

Any comments or suggestions?

Think about power consumption of your hardware. If it is supposed to run 24/7 this can add up over a year. The money could be invested in power efficient hardware instead. There are calculators online

I feel like the debugging dopamine comes from the fact that it’s usually a well scoped problem that’s easier to understand than implementing a new feature while still being important. At least that is how I explain it to myself. It sounds like that is taken away from you, since the llm kinda opens up the scope in programming.

The extended approach with fixed intervals and breaks doesn’t work for me, but I’m using a timer to get started on things that I can’t commit to otherwise. It’s mostly initial momentum in my case.

This is from the article: „If there are any genuine users of these drivers remaining that are still running an upstream kernel, the drivers can always be reverted / merged back but otherwise they are gone without anyone maintaining them.“

Es ist echt zum kotzen. Ich habe das Gefühl solche Systeme neigen immer dazu ihr eigenes Leben leichter zu machen, auf Kosten der Bürger. Man braucht echt Kontrollmechanismen.

In den USA sollten Frauen „einfach“ ab jetzt eine Schusswaffe bei sich tragen. So wie es die Republikaner wollen. Dann gibt es immer einen good „guy“ die den bad guy aufhalten kann.

I feel you. I assume people with better management skills are able to triage tasks and goals in advance but I just let life filter out what I can’t get done. But this makes me feel super anxious, disappointed and guilty all the time.

Blattläuse (feddit.org)

Hallo zusammen,

Also zur Not wäre nicht alles kaputt. Was sind da so eure Erfahrungen?
