I figure brand new major features would be slower in coming. But security would be improved.

I feel there's going to be an element of "old man yells at cloud" here, but that isn't inherently a bad thing. I just use Windows at work at the moment but there's very little I do in Windows that I couldn't do as far back as Windows XP as long as driver support kept up. I don't use it for the OS, the OS just enables me to use the applications I need.

Same with MacOS. I know Apple always act like every minor enhancement is the greatest thing ever (look, we added Tabs to Finder ๐Ÿคฉ), but ultimately the OS is there to act as the pathway between my applications and my hardware.

If the focus switched from features to security, would we really lose anything of value? At a minimum I wouldn't have family contacting me cause their PC looks different than it did previously (looking at you centralised Windows taskbar ๐Ÿ‘€).

I assume the extra padding was a function of touch screens becoming more prevalent since trying to hit the 2003 style buttons with a finger was not that easy, although I don't remember offhand when touch first started becoming a thing in Windows so it might have happened the other way around. But either way it's likely still a factor in why the ribbon with its extra padding has stuck around.

Two for two, you guys are on fire! But please don't use these words around the FIA, it scares them

[-] Drusenija@lemmy.world 5 points 1 day ago

Yes, that's a good example of one of the words they're talking about ๐Ÿ˜‚

[-] Drusenija@lemmy.world 2 points 1 day ago

Hmm, it's not quite what I'm looking for but it's a lot better than a lot of options I've found so far. Thank you for the recommendation ๐Ÿ˜Š It's something I'll be getting anyway once I hit 80 so will give it a try once I get there!

This is as far as I've gotten with it so far. But not happy with the weapon choices I have (right now I'm just using the level 70 poetics weapon cause I just ticked over to 70 last week and haven't bothered to glam it).

Glamour question (lemmy.world)
submitted 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago) by Drusenija@lemmy.world to c/ffxiv@possumpat.io

I'm in the process of putting together an Aerith glam for my white mage (cause I can't possibly start playing a new job unless I've got a glam for it I like ๐Ÿ˜‚). I'm largely done with it but I'm trying to find a good weapon for it.

Most white mage weapons are cane style weapons that have a decorative thing on the top but just the stick at the bottom. I want to try and find something that's more like the Guard Stick; essentially less decorative but it matches at the top and the bottom. I don't know if anything like that exists in FFXIV though. Does anyone know of a weapon that might work?

(If you're not familiar with Aerith's weapons in FF7 remake which is what I'm basically trying to emulate, this site has pictures of all of them. Probably mild FF7 Rebirth spoilers too.)

Failing that I suppose I can try to find something like the Princess Guard from the original FF7 which is more likely to exist in FFXIV. But would love to try and keep to the Remake aesthetic if I can!

They do, they're probably just hoping the advertisers don't and keep paying for more ad space.

We had a system at work that generated 4 character alphanumeric reference numbers. Originally to avoid this they just excluded vowels from the letters but eventually they grew enough they ran out of available reference numbers so they added the vowels back in and I had to built the blacklist to avoid stuff like this happening. I reckon I probably tripped every IT filter known to man in a week long period looking for swear words in a variety of languages ๐Ÿ˜‚

The part where people share asterisks when they talk about their passwords? Just seems like good security honestly ๐Ÿ˜‚ Glad Lemmy is keeping up with this pinnacle of security best practices.

There's usually Discord servers too that coordinate runs on the different servers if it's something you're wanting to jump into! I haven't does DRS yet but there's a new DRS player group planned for the start of next month on Materia that I'm really thinking about giving a go (especially since it's a weekend where my wife is away so I'll be at home just with the kids so taking over the lounge room for a run wouldn't be a major hassle ๐Ÿ˜Š).

Congrats on the clear, and the mount!

It's definitely a spiritual successor to Apollo and is the main reason I've stuck with Lemmy.

Games that have already been classified prior to September 22nd aren't affected by this unless they need to go through classification again, however I'm going to laugh if Pokemon Red & Blue are rereleased on the Switch 2 at some point in the future and get slapped with an R18+ rating ๐Ÿ˜‚

Another week has flown by in Eorzea, so it's time for this week's reset recap! What have you been up to this week in the game, and what have you managed to tick off your bucket list?

Also am curious if people are finding this fun or interesting. We're still a small community here on Lemmy so am trying to encourage people to post and engage a bit, but I also look back since last week's recap and not a lot has happened ๐Ÿ˜… So share your thoughts as well on whether you this we should keep going with the recap!

As the clock ticks down to the weekly reset, it's time again for this week's Reset Recap! What did (or didn't) you achieve this week in the game?

Remember if you haven't participated in The Rising event this year that you're nearly out of time, with the event finishing later this week. Get yourself a big red fan emote and enjoy a cute little quest line to celebrate another year together in Eorzea.

How has your week gone in Eorzea? What did you manage to tick off your to do list?

In the week that was FFXIV news, the Materia data center was brought to its knees for a few hours late last week with all 5 servers going offline due to some issues in the data center, we got some previews at PAX of some of the new UI elements coming like chat bubbles and the raid planner, and Yoshi-P hinted at FFXIV maybe being made available for the Switch 2!

There's a ton of other interesting stuff in the interview about things like how they're tuning fight difficulty, the fact they rebalanced the jobs after they'd already finalised the current Savage tier and the fact they're expecting groups to wipe on average three times during the Alliance Raid (personally I doubt that will last long based on past experience with Myths of the Realm).

But apparently we're getting 24 man savage content! How had I missed this? (And how on earth are we going to coordinate groups for it? It's hard enough to find 7 other people now for regular Savage ๐Ÿ˜…)

It's that time of the year again where anyone who's anyone with a Fantasia addiction can save themselves a little bit of money or (and let's be honest, this is more likely) get more Fantasias for the same amount of money!

Plus there'll be a ton of stuff like emotes, mounts and some glamours on sale as well, so if there's anything you've been eyeing off recently, now is the time to get it on the cheap! (Well, not right now, the game and the shop are still down for maintenance... but soon!)

We're going to lose a couple of hours tonight due to maintenance, so it's time for this week's reset recap! Assuming you didn't get completely hammered by the DDoSing over the last couple of days, what are you proud of getting done this week in Eorzea?

Follow the link to the Lodestone for the specifics however we've got a 7 hour maintenance planned for next week just before reset for some hot fixes and infrastructure maintenance. Make sure to check your local time and get any retainers, airships or submarines sent out before maintenance starts!

And don't forget all the hunt monsters will be up after the game comes back online so expect some A trains and S rank hunts happening after maintenance.
