I'm so happy the internet allows us to read other people's dumb takes.

Every vehicle behind it was really fucking warned though.

Can't fix everything, but Google drive is easily replaced by proton drive. Google notes/keep or any kind of note taking is easily replaced (and improved) by Obsidian, and on android you can install f-droid as an alternative store.

Downside is that these thinks cost money. But everything has a cost, and at least here the cost is clear, and upfront.

Isnt that like, a usual part in the game development cycle? I've seen news reports like this for over 15 years now. Developer starts with ideas for a new game, small team. Developer starts actual production of game, team grows. Developer realizes how much work there actually is to be done, team grows even further. Game is almost done and in a good state, team starts to shrink since there is no longer enough work for everyone. Part is laid off and part is reassigned to early development of DLC. Game is released, and smaller team is able to do patchwork. Developer starts with idea for new game, cycle repeats.

Perhaps the main reason we havent seen a lot of these news blurbs over the past few years is that A: CDPR is a good punchingbag. Common memory of the target audience hold the bad release of CP2077, so its easy to get back in the habit and haul in these clicks. And B: TripleA game development mas mostly conglomerated into a few big developers/publishers with several teams around the world. That means that when one project winds down, surplus personnel might be easily integrated into a different team that is just winding up. CDPR is one of the few tripleA developers not able to do this (yet).

No sense in engaging with tankie talking points. China indeed has a long history of conquering and then culturally and ethnically assimilating everything into Han. Makes it a lot easier to rewrite history into saying you are just uniting your people. Same playbook on why the Uyghurs are experiencing genocide by China.

Before too many people come in saying she needs a longer sentence just a quick reminder; The singular only reason she is serving time at all is because she stole money from other rich assholes. Had she just scammed the poor rubes likes us here as the top class is supposed to do she would probably still be on several boards and gotten press coverage as the "inspirational power woman who bounced back".

This is a very valid reason.

as others said the concept of email is already pretty good. But if you're worried about your data, simplest solution is to stop relying on free email services where you are the product (like google) and start paying for services whose business model is privacy (like proton).

As an addendum, what about the popular tools we use in our daily lives? The calendar, note tools, etc all are products of companies driven to maximize profits.

proton offers email, vpn, password manager, file storage, and calendar.
other companies also offer parts of that if you dont want to rely on the same company for all of it.
obsidian offers local, secure, and encrypted sync notekeeping.
For everything you mention there is a company who offers it, and who's business model is providing a good and secure service for a fee, and not "free"(paid by your ad profile).

Is there a community movement that can somehow mitigate this? Or is there really no choice for us?

Im possibly just really cranky from allergies so apologies if Im out of line, but this gives the impression of just wanting free crowdsourced solutions, instead of looking into the viable paid solutions that are already out there.

Im not going to deny the threat of Extend/Embrace/Extinguish, but everyone defederating now, and threatening to defederate all other instances that dont do so as well, comes across as an incredible hasty and mostly an emotionally driven decision.

if we really want useful AI tools they need to be open source and customizable by the user.
