I don’t remember asking Orban a god damn thing.

[-] BaardFigur@lemmy.world 26 points 7 months ago* (last edited 7 months ago)

Time to throw Hungary out of NATO. Hungary bordering Ukraine, would then be open for invasion. Maybe that'll scare some sense into Orban

[-] homesweethomeMrL@lemmy.world 13 points 7 months ago

Órban is a regime, theoretically they’re temporary.

But, yeah, not cool, Hungary.

[-] mindlight@lemm.ee 9 points 7 months ago

Orban / Lukasjenko.... Same shit, different names.

[-] realitista@lemm.ee 2 points 7 months ago

Unfortunately as long as he remains a a loyal puppet state of Moscow he will probably get to stay in power. He will just need to host some Russian nukes and allow Putin to make attacks from his soil with Hungarian troops.

[-] ObviouslyNotBanana@lemmy.world 25 points 7 months ago

One thing we know of Orban is that he can be trusted with what he says.

[-] OldWoodFrame@lemm.ee 15 points 7 months ago

I could have told you that too but you HAD to ask Viktor Orban...

[-] Ulrich_the_Old@lemmy.ca 15 points 7 months ago

If Ukraine falls then putin will press on to another country, perhaps Hungary.

[-] dubyakay@lemmy.ca 13 points 7 months ago

Oh don't worry. He's already there. Suddenly all the old geezers from outside Budapest are vying for the return of "Communism", and the dumdums youngins are going along with it. Even though they don't remember how shitty it actually used to be. Nor that it wasn't really communism either.

[-] JimSamtanko@lemm.ee 11 points 7 months ago

There’s people that didn’t already know this?

[-] Thief_of_Crows@lemmy.ml 9 points 7 months ago

Oh man I hope so, America needs to stop screwing around in other people's business. The only Americans who benefit from wars are those who sell the bombs. If Putin decides he's gonna be a real problem, fight him then. Otherwise we are just lighting all our money on fire (literally) for no gain.

[-] SkybreakerEngineer@lemmy.world 39 points 7 months ago

And who benefits from letting Putin conquer Ukraine? Besides your handlers, I mean.

[-] Thief_of_Crows@lemmy.ml 1 points 7 months ago

America, because we can stop lighting our money on fire in Ukraine, and fix our infrastructure instead.

Almost as if there are people who disagree with you...

I think people this dumb exist, but this one looks like a definite troll.

Well technically the US is the cause of all this, but not how you would think.

To them defeating communism is more important than human life of regional stability. Latin-America is a perfect example, as it's rife with sanctions and embargos, haphazardly followed by the EU as a matter of precedent for decades now.

Juxtapose that to the cold war, McCarthyism taken to it's extremes, a fair bit of fear mongering, allow a fascist right-wing regime to grow over the decades to become spiteful of it all and see them do the Euro imperialistic tango once more.

In essence, the fake neo-nazis in Ukraine was a weak excuse. But add US imperialism, formaly known as US NATO imperialism, and you've got what can be seen as a fair point. An aggressive foreign adversary, with more than it's shares of government overthrowals (the CIA has the world high score in sponsored coups), and you've got not only geo-political precedent, but also a Goliath to play David against.

[-] Thief_of_Crows@lemmy.ml 2 points 7 months ago

LMAO, that is exactly what I think, though I don't think ive ever put it that well. It's quite obvious that America is trying to expand it's reach to include Ukraine, and that is fundamentally a big threat to Russia, seeing as America has made NATO into the "Fuck Russia" club. It's kind of insane that westerners will rightly say the Russian version of imperialism is wrong, but have no issue with the American version, despite all of South and Central America being living proof of how destructive it is. It's legitimately MORE harmful to overthrow a government and install a bloodthirsty dictator who ruins your economy for decades to come than it is to bomb cities and engage in traditional warfare.

And in case anyone thinks that was all 20th century stuff, America certainly is not done doing this, they attempted to enact the typical playbook in 2018 in Venezuela (again), by declaring their puppet, Juan Guiado, the winner of an election that was won fairly by Maduro, on top of the mercenaries sent to assassinate Maduro.

I've seen this movie before, but in that one, the villain had a silly mustache and walked funny. 🤔

America didn't bother with that one either, until Mr. Mustache's rising-sun-buddies blew up a harbor.

Yeah it worked out great for the world letting those goons run around unchecked for a while. I'm sure this one would sort itself if we just stay out of it. /s

[-] Thief_of_Crows@lemmy.ml 1 points 7 months ago

How exactly is this the same as Nazi Germany? What, they both started a war?

[-] MonkeMischief@lemmy.today 1 points 7 months ago

Also the "appeasement" and isolationist strategies.

"Oo he angey, we'll let him take Poland if he wants it so bad...then he'll surely be satisfied and leave the rest of us alone!"

[-] Thief_of_Crows@lemmy.ml 1 points 7 months ago

People have written me your exact comment but subbing in about 5 different countries. Makes me think it was actually obvious what Hitler wanted, which is clearly different from what Putin wants.

This is the best summary I could come up with:

Donald Trump will not fund Ukraine's fight against Russia's invasion if he is elected US president again, Hungarian PM Viktor Orban has said.

The Hungarian prime minister has repeatedly drawn strong criticism from fellow EU leaders for maintaining close ties with Russian President Vladimir Putin, ever since he launched a full-scale invasion of Ukraine on 24 February 2022.

Unlike many other Western nations, Mr Orban refuses to send weapons to its neighbour Ukraine, stating repeatedly that Kyiv is unable to win against a nuclear-armed Russia.

The Republicans - openly encouraged by Mr Trump - say they will not allow the bill to clear the final hurdle in the House of Representatives without first agreeing additional funding for US border security.

Russian forces have recently made gains in eastern Ukraine, as Kyiv experiences acute shortages in ammunition.

Ukraine is critically dependent on weapons from the US, the main supplier, and other Western allies to keep fighting Russia - a much bigger military force with an abundance of artillery ammunition.
