Dirty clothes & dead kids (sh.itjust.works)

alt-text: there’s laundry to do and a genocide to stop. I have to eat better and also avoid a plague. my rent went up $150. I’ll need to pick up more shifts. Twenty people died in Rafah this morning and every major news outlet is stretching the limits of passive voice to suggest whole families may have leaped up through the air at missiles that otherwise had the right of way. I just got a notification that my student loan payments are starting up again and my phone isn’t charged. My cousin got COVID for a fourth time and can no longer work or walk or even feed himself. The person across from me on the L train seems to fashion themself a punk rock revolutionary, but they’re not wearing a face mask, and that’s the kind of cognitive dissonance that makes me want to steal batteries. Fascists keep winning primaries for both parties, and I think I gained a few pounds. The CDC just announced there are no more speed limits on highways, and I think this Ativan is finally hitting. The NYPD farmer’s market only sells bad apples, have you heard that one? Listen it’s warm today, too warm for March. But I don’t have time to think through the implications because there’s laundry to do and a genocide to stop.

Ooh I like this. Let me upvote it so I feel like I’m making a difference while I sit here dreading existence

[-] LemmyKnowsBest@lemmy.world 32 points 8 months ago

You're making more of a difference than I am. I'm not even going to upvote OP post and I'm just going to sit here and do nothing. I mean I might get up to pee in a minute.

[-] TokenBoomer@lemmy.world 10 points 8 months ago

It made a difference to me. Thanks.

Fascists keep winning primaries for both parties

Fuck off.

[-] Lamps@lemm.ee 56 points 8 months ago

You’re in the right. Doomerism that “both sides are just as bad” is what Republicans want people to believe. Did Biden lead an insurrection? Not that I’ve heard of. Thinking both sides are just as bad is a childish perspective.

[-] DerArzt@lemmy.world 28 points 8 months ago

Both sides can be bad in my view. We are at a point of choosing the lesser of two evils.

[-] Witchfire@lemmy.world 18 points 8 months ago* (last edited 8 months ago)

One side is literal fascist and the other no longer represents us

[-] Lesrid@lemm.ee 17 points 8 months ago

They are bad though. On the one hand a Palestinian lost all 60 members of his family and several thousands died. On the other hand a Palestinian would have lost all 60 members of his family and several more thousands would have died. It is hard for that Palestinian to appreciate the difference and infinitely harder for his family to appreciate the difference.

[-] icydefiance@lemm.ee 26 points 8 months ago* (last edited 8 months ago)

Biden is pushing for a ceasefire and sanctioning settlers, while Trump said that Israel should "finish the problem".

If you consider a Palestinian who hasn't lost their family yet, there's a pretty obvious difference between the two candidates.

[-] Deceptichum@sh.itjust.works 19 points 8 months ago* (last edited 8 months ago)

He literally sanctioned 3 settlers, and hes been lying for weeks now about how this supposed temporary truce is happening any minute now. Meanwhile he continues to offer vocal and physical aid to Israel.

Fuck off with the bidenoganda.

[-] icydefiance@lemm.ee 6 points 8 months ago

It was more than 30 settlers in the first batch, and it was clear that they wouldn't stop there.

And it's Hamas that is delaying the truce at this point, because they either don't know where their own hostages are, or the hostages are all dead already and they don't want to admit it.

Fuck off with your lies.

[-] Deceptichum@sh.itjust.works 10 points 8 months ago* (last edited 8 months ago)

President Joe Biden handed down financial sanctions against four Israeli nationals last week who were allegedly connected to violence against civilians in the West Bank amid the Israel-Hamas war.

https://abcnews.go.com/International/israeli-settler-sanctioned-biden-speaks/story?id=106988009

It was 4 not 3, and certainly not 30. 4 people who were never going to go to the US or using US banks cant do so. Big fucking deal. Bidens an absolute flog whos doing nothing of substance.

And its not even connected to Israels current genocide in Gaza, which neans it does nothing to help end what he supports Israel doing.

Go on liar, prove this wrong.

What you are saying is an atrocity; I agree with you wholeheartedly. Regardless, I will still be voting against the person who led an insurrection and who paved the way for women to lose their rights to bodily autonomy in Roe v Wade. It’s an easy choice.

Although your best option is Biden and I wouldn't say otherwise even as someone not receiving any benefits from his good internal policies, Biden still is a fascist.

He has been a practical one, by which I mean he mixes good domestic stuff with genociding halfway across the world, whereas the Orange Jello is a principled one, having done and still aiming to very bad domestic choices and genocidal fascism at both domestic and international domains.

So yeah, fascists keep winning primaries for both parties, but you still have a choice to pick the international fascist over full-time fascist.

[-] alilbee@lemmy.world 18 points 8 months ago

international fascist

"Fascisms is when you kill people!". Joe Biden is a lot of things that leftists do not like, neoliberal first among them. Saying he's a fascist is absolutely asinine and has no basis in reality. You're watering down terms that have clear definitions.

[-] flames5123@lemmy.world 20 points 8 months ago

Right? Sure, Biden is a milquetoast, but he’s not spilling hate speech or mandating violence on minorities. Sure he’s complicit in the genocide, but there’s nothing he can really do.

[-] Deceptichum@sh.itjust.works 42 points 8 months ago

but there’s nothing he can really do.

Fuck off.

He can easily dictate foreign policy and ensure his office is not using language supportive of Israel. He can openly condemn their actions. He can stop getting his Secretary of State to shield them at the UN. He can not fast track weapons to them. He can not push immigration bills that also have $14.1 billion in aid of Israel tacked onto them. And thats not even the half of it.

To act like PotUS is some powerless position in regards to US support for Israel is asinine.

[-] OccamsTeapot@lemmy.world 36 points 8 months ago

Sure he’s complicit in the genocide, but there’s nothing he can really do.

Lol I hope this is a joke because it's a good one.

[handing fresh magazines to a school shooter] yeah sorry kids there's nothing I can really do, it's a complicated world out there you know

[-] stewie3128@lemmy.ml 22 points 8 months ago

Nothing at all. Just keep supporting everything Israel does, keep blocking any resolutions helping the Palestinians at the UN, keep funding the genocide. No, nothing at all he could do about any of that.

You can't fix it. Turn off the news. Go for a walk.

It's true that everything is shit. But everything has always been shit, whether you cared about it or not. And we're all still here.

The only difference between caring and not caring is that now you're miserable and anxious. And there's still nothing you can do.

[-] Witchfire@lemmy.world 30 points 8 months ago* (last edited 8 months ago)

Living in ignorance is hardly healthy though. You'll only be caught flat footed when the bad shit finally catches up to you. How long that takes is a matter of luck and privilege, for some people it's sooner rather than later.

[-] Blackmist@feddit.uk 16 points 8 months ago

Sure, but if you can't compartmentalise the stuff that effects you from the stuff that doesn't, then it's not worth sacrificing your mental health over most of it.

[-] shottymcb@lemm.ee 9 points 8 months ago

More importantly than the stuff that affects you is to focus on the things you can change. A friend of mine was in AA, which is a whole can of worms that I'm not going to delve into, but one thing I really like was the Serenity Prayer. I'm an atheist, but I like the thought anyway. It goes

God grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can, and the wisdom to know the difference.

[-] threeduck@aussie.zone 10 points 8 months ago

Do what you can, so when the end comes you know you did your part. Go vegan, ride a bike, vote left, shop ethically. It does a lot to curb the unease.

[-] GrayBackgroundMusic@lemm.ee 25 points 8 months ago

Reminds me of Matt Buchele (mattbooshell) 's video "disorienting times". Bouncing between atrocity on social media and you boss wants you to fix a typo on slide 3.

ITT: people angry at the suggestion both parties are fascists on opposite ends of the spectrum

[-] TrickDacy@lemmy.world 49 points 8 months ago

Because the mental laziness of suggesting that conservatives are the same as liberals is literally destroying the world.

But nevermind that. bOtH sIdEs

[-] BigLgame@lemy.lol 13 points 8 months ago

Liberals and liberalism are conservative, both sides are not the same but they aren't as far apart as they should be.

Funny here I thought it was the capitalist order that’s destroying the world.

Y’know, the one upheld by liberals and conservatives alike.

Opposite ends of what spectrum? Where are the left leaning candidates in America?

[-] Lommy241@lemmy.world 7 points 8 months ago
[-] Cowbee@lemmy.ml 5 points 8 months ago

Bernie is a Social Democrat. He still wants Capitalism, he's a centrist at most.

[-] Nudding@lemmy.world 4 points 8 months ago

How many left leaning policies has he passed?

[-] webadict@lemmy.world 5 points 8 months ago

I think you mean "voted for", he isn't Congress, and therefore doesn't pass bills, unless you suggest that only passed legislation makes someone one particular political wing, in which case, I'd argue that seems like a deeply flawed understanding of government.

Fascism is purely on the right, it's a violent entrenchment of Capitalist power.

[-] porous_grey_matter@lemmy.ml 13 points 8 months ago

That's because they're not, they're fascists on the same end of the spectrum.

[-] Leviathan@lemmy.world 5 points 8 months ago* (last edited 8 months ago)

Because if they're fascists they are not on opposite ends of the spectrum. The text is saying that Democrats produce fascists as well, because many Democrats enact what in regular life would be firmly right wing policies.

Because the Dems are the left wing in a bipartisan system, leftists hold the Dems to a higher standard. Likening them to fascists when they enact right wing policies against the will of the actual leftists forced to vote for them is a valid position.

There would have to be actual left wing candidates to begin with. Until then, they might be in different parties but they are firmly on the same end of the spectrum.

There are no more speed limits on highways? What does the Center for disease control have anything to do with regulating speed limits on federal /county/states/whatever highways?
