Being stuck in a pod by yourself makes it kinda difficult to get intimate with someone in the real world.

The answer is in the movie. When explaining the Matrix to Neo, Morpheus says: "There are fields, endless fields, where human beings are no longer born, we are grown."

https://youtu.be/IojqOMWTgv8

Doesn't specify the exact how, but it's strongly implied that it is through either cloning or artificial gestation.

They use robo arms to just rub people's limp bodies together.

[-] hakunawazo@lemmy.world 95 points 10 months ago

Upvote for the hillarious image in my head.

[-] makuus@pawb.social 11 points 10 months ago

For me, that, but with “Now Procreate!”

[-] immarcbtw@iusearchlinux.fyi 26 points 10 months ago

I completely forgot about that part of the movie. Thanks for the reminder!

[-] tiramichu@lemm.ee 12 points 10 months ago

I think you are due for a re-watch! It's great when it's been a few years and you can enjoy some of the bits you forgot about.

[-] Anticorp@lemmy.world 5 points 10 months ago

Unfortunately we can never experience the big reveal for the first time again. It was absolutely mind-blowing watching him wake up in the pod on the big theater screen for the first time. That was the coolest movie experience I've ever had.

Eternal Sunshine of a Spotless Mind. So many firsts to revisit

[-] Silentiea@lemm.ee 3 points 10 months ago

Are you saying to watch ESotSM, or to utilize its one weird trick?

[-] Silentiea@lemm.ee 2 points 10 months ago

Listen, this is getting creepy.

[-] Jarix@lemmy.world 1 points 10 months ago* (last edited 10 months ago)

Wait, who am I?

[-] ultratiem@lemmy.ca 14 points 10 months ago

They actually touch on it in the animated movie that spanned a series of vignettes from that universe.

Spoiler alert: it ain’t pretty.

[-] Midnight1938@reddthat.com 2 points 10 months ago

Animatrix movie?

[-] e0qdk@kbin.social 9 points 10 months ago

artificial gestation

The word "matrix" literally means "womb" in its older sense.

Why even grow them with arms and legs if they are just going to be batteries? Wouldn't it be easier to just grow cows instead?

[-] JonEFive@midwest.social 12 points 10 months ago

Because shut up. /s

But really though, the entire concept of using humans as batteries is absurd. Don't think too hard about it, just enjoy the movie.

[-] hahattpro@lemmy.world 1 points 9 months ago

They mate sprem and egg in lab then grown in vat, which is better. Or clone, could be worst.

[-] TheBat@lemmy.world 80 points 10 months ago

Robot spiders steal cum and inject it in another female.

[-] Plopp@lemmy.world 39 points 10 months ago

I don't know about y'all but I can't even get aroused anymore without having a robot spider jacking me off.

[-] TwilightVulpine@lemmy.world 15 points 10 months ago

Gotta wonder how that robot feels about humanity

[-] jballs@sh.itjust.works 11 points 10 months ago

Sticky, mostly.

[-] Rhynoplaz@lemmy.world 8 points 10 months ago

Meh, it's a living!

[-] RizzRustbolt@lemmy.world 6 points 10 months ago

"It's a living..."

[-] Anticorp@lemmy.world 2 points 10 months ago

That robot is most likely not sentient.

[-] ShepherdPie@midwest.social 8 points 10 months ago

That's some Rule 34 material right there.

[-] dylanTheDeveloper@lemmy.world 8 points 10 months ago

Cummy spiders 😩😩😩

[-] Ziglin@lemmy.world 4 points 10 months ago

Eww I was just going to suggest it goes through all the little tubes attached anyway I'm leaving before I see anything else

[-] SatansMaggotyCumFart@lemmy.world 1 points 10 months ago

That’s just a succubus/incubus.

[-] criitz@reddthat.com 35 points 10 months ago

They probably extract sperm and eggs and gestate them right in the pods

[-] Blackout@kbin.social 29 points 10 months ago

You see, when a daddy battery and mommy battery love each other they hug and grunt and that's how babby formed

[-] teft@lemmy.world 14 points 10 months ago

No they just merge their codebases and create a new life that way.

Example:

[-] SeabassDan@lemmy.world 2 points 10 months ago

You mean ram sticks

[-] rockerface@lemm.ee 5 points 10 months ago

What if reincarnation? When someone dies in the Matrix, their body gets reconnected to another baby in the Matrix. As for how the human population is maintained outside of the Matrix... either the machines keep catching more humans, or something like artificial insemination. Or cloning

[-] Vlaxtocia 34 points 10 months ago

No, if you die in the Matrix you die in real life

[-] Aurenkin@sh.itjust.works 23 points 10 months ago

The body cannot survive without the mind

[-] Rocketpoweredgorilla@lemmy.ca 25 points 10 months ago

My neighbor begs to differ. That jackass is completely brain dead.

[-] Anticorp@lemmy.world 1 points 10 months ago
[-] don@lemm.ee 12 points 10 months ago

You think that’s air you’re breathing?

[-] Siegfried@lemmy.world 20 points 10 months ago

It's actually microplastics

[-] kautau@lemmy.world 9 points 10 months ago* (last edited 10 months ago)

“Are you saying I can dodge taxes?”

“No, neocapitalism, I’m trying to tell you that when you’re ready, you won’t have to.”

[-] ohitsbreadley@discuss.tchncs.de 1 points 10 months ago

"If you can dodge taxes, you can dodge a ball"

[-] cali_ash@lemmy.wtf 7 points 10 months ago

When someone dies in the Matrix, their body gets reconnected to another baby in the Matrix

But why would the bother with this? How would that help with anything?

[-] INeedMana@lemmy.world 6 points 10 months ago

That would actually be a good idea. With people growing up and learning on their own, you don't have a fully controlled system. The world inside the Matrix will be evolving and from time to time there will be some glitch somewhere. If you have a base of defined childhoods, then only physical differences between bodies and random occurences inside are uncontrolled

If I were to construct the Matrix, I would go after cloning (fewer biological lottery) and predefined lifepaths to keep everything nice and stable

[-] Gutek8134@lemmy.world 3 points 10 months ago

Kinda reminds me of Brave New World

[-] INeedMana@lemmy.world 2 points 10 months ago

Well, they also were after stability
