Caesar salad was invented in Mexico, but the basic message here remains true

[-] iAmTheTot@kbin.social 26 points 2 years ago

It was an Italian immigrant, though.

[-] PlasticExistence@lemmy.world 34 points 2 years ago

We need one more twist to make this a truly great factoid.

That immigrant's name? Caesar Mario, father of the Mario Brothers of Mushroom Kingdom fame.

[-] oce@jlai.lu 6 points 2 years ago* (last edited 2 years ago)

In the traditional way to cook it, it's important to start with a chick stabbing the chicken in the back.

[-] ininewcrow@lemmy.ca 11 points 2 years ago

Got em ... because that Italian immigrant most likely had 0.00000000000000000001% DNA relation to Julius Caesar

He was probably also 1/32nds Cherokee too

[-] WayTooDank@lemmy.world 9 points 2 years ago

The salad is 100% caesar tho

[-] lugal@lemmy.ml 10 points 2 years ago

And that's what matters according to the meme. The guy doesn't matter, the idea does. Thanks for reminding us of the true spirit of the meme!

[-] Kidplayer_666@lemm.ee 6 points 2 years ago

Wrong. 50% salad, 50% Ceaser

[-] general_kitten@sopuli.xyz 2 points 2 years ago

It would be way cooler to just say that he was a descendant of Julius Caesar than to say he has insert small number here amount of his dna

[-] UraniumBlazer@lemm.ee 18 points 2 years ago

This meme explained: Cut your vegetables like you cut a Caesar.

[-] platypus_plumba@lemmy.world 7 points 2 years ago* (last edited 2 years ago)

Nha, you just have to gain the chicken's trust and the stab it on the back.

[-] Gork@lemm.ee 10 points 2 years ago

Ave Caesar!

[-] Smoogs@lemmy.world 9 points 2 years ago

And The salad has, in turn, killed many (romaine lettuce prone to bacteria)

[-] OldWoodFrame@lemm.ee 8 points 2 years ago

I suspect Caesar the guy had more people killed than Caesar salads but I admit I do not have proof.

[-] LifeInMultipleChoice@lemmy.world 5 points 2 years ago

Fun fact: The Caesar salad was created in Mexico from what I knew.

[-] UnderpantsWeevil@lemmy.world 3 points 2 years ago* (last edited 2 years ago)

Ironically, after a bunch of salad ingredients had gone bad and the head chef had to scramble for a menu, if I recall the story correctly.

[-] elooto@lemmy.ml 8 points 2 years ago

Fun fact: the ceasar salad was invented in Tijuana in the 1920s?

[-] troglodytis@lemmy.world 7 points 2 years ago

Can't see a Caesar and not want a Caesar

[-] RagingRobot@lemmy.world 3 points 2 years ago

That's the one with fish juice right?

[-] NoFun4You@lemmy.world 2 points 2 years ago

What'd you say about my ex wife?

[-] Deconceptualist@lemm.ee 7 points 2 years ago* (last edited 2 years ago)

Caesar Salad is from the 1920's. A restauranteur and Italian immigrant named Caesar Cardini served it in Tijuana, Mexico.

It had nothing to do with ancient Romans. Bad meme, do your homework next time.

[-] Tristaniopsis@aussie.zone 12 points 2 years ago

I’m going to keep making ‘incorrect Caesar’ memes for your pleasure.

[-] Deconceptualist@lemm.ee 2 points 2 years ago

Oh okay, as long as it's truthy enough. This one wasn't.

[-] Tristaniopsis@aussie.zone 5 points 2 years ago

I can’t claim credit for this one, which is brilliant BTW.

[-] Deconceptualist@lemm.ee 1 points 2 years ago

Brilliant? Whew that's a low bar you've set for that word.

[-] Tristaniopsis@aussie.zone 3 points 2 years ago

Well ok. But you don’t like it so no matter what positive adjectives I use you’ll object.

[-] Deconceptualist@lemm.ee 1 points 2 years ago

Huh? I'm not categorically opposed to memes. I just have opinions sometimes. There are plenty of others I like 🤷‍♂️

[-] Tristaniopsis@aussie.zone 2 points 2 years ago

How DARE you have opinions!!!!

[-] FooBarrington@lemmy.world 8 points 2 years ago

The dichotomy of meme and reality is best characterised as "comedy". It's a joke, my dude.

[-] Deconceptualist@lemm.ee 1 points 2 years ago

Some jokes are weak AF and fall flat, my dude.

[-] FooBarrington@lemmy.world 2 points 2 years ago

Hundreds of people seem to have enjoyed it.

Are you out of touch? No, it's everyone else who is wrong.

[-] Deconceptualist@lemm.ee 1 points 2 years ago

I feel like you know Ad Populum is a fallacy and now you're just responding in bad faith.

[-] FooBarrington@lemmy.world 3 points 2 years ago

Ad Populum is not a fallacy when talking about subjective things like comedy. This is not a formal debate.

[-] Deconceptualist@lemm.ee 2 points 2 years ago* (last edited 2 years ago)

Eh, ok agreed. Sorry, I got really bad sleep the last couple days so my sense of humor was pretty much dead. I'm doing better now. I'm not usually that much of a stiff.

I shouldn't have even commented. When you've already been awake for most of a 48+ hour period you don't always make the best decisions...

[-] FooBarrington@lemmy.world 1 points 2 years ago

Completely understandable! Glad to hear you're doing better :)

[-] pete_the_cat@lemmy.world 8 points 2 years ago

His rival across town was named Brutus.

[-] Deconceptualist@lemm.ee 2 points 2 years ago

He sounds dangerous, or at least if you're an emperor.

[-] xspurnx@lemmy.dbzer0.com 1 points 2 years ago* (last edited 2 years ago)

A Brutus Salad you say? Intriguing...

[-] WhiskyTangoFoxtrot@lemmy.world 4 points 2 years ago

How many ages hence
Shall this our lofty scene be acted over
In states unborn and accents yet unknown!

[-] Deconceptualist@lemm.ee 1 points 2 years ago

Yea tru, thank u Shakespeare

[-] rhandyrhoads@lemmy.world 1 points 2 years ago

I'm sure that with him being an Italian immigrant, the name Caesar has NOTHING to do with ancient Rome. Absolutely zero link there.

[-] Casey_Masterpiece@lemmy.world 5 points 2 years ago

This is my Roman Empire

[-] nifty@lemmy.world 2 points 2 years ago

I’ve been playing Expeditions Rome and the pronunciation of the Roman names is quite interesting.

[-] wildcardology@lemmy.world 1 points 2 years ago* (last edited 2 years ago)

Caesar is a title not a name. Like emperor, czar, king...

[-] platypus_plumba@lemmy.world 9 points 2 years ago

Oh boy, you're gonna have fun learning where the name of the tittle comes from...

[-] JoYo@lemmy.ml 1 points 2 years ago

Yah, because salad is Latin for salted vegetables.
