Give it time. The community was very small for a very long time. There wasn't a big need or push for detailed mobile functionality.

hmm. sort options do seem to exist in other places.
You can "globally" change your comment sort. From your main feed (not in comments):
Hamburger Menu > Settings > username settings > Default Sort Type
That's the sort option for the feed and not the comments.
